The drug under consideration is indicated for the prophylaxis and management of ocular pruritus resulting from allergies, including allergic or seasonal conjunctivitis. Ketotifen is an ocular antihistamine that modulates allergic manifestations by selectively antagonizing histamine, a naturally occurring substance. Moreover, it acts as a mast cell stabilizer, curbing the release of endogenous compounds that elicit an allergic response.
Uses and Dosage
Zaditor is a medication utilized in the treatment of Allergic Conjunctivitis and may be used alone or in combination with other drugs. This medication belongs to the class of Antihistamines, Ophthalmic, which acts to alleviate symptoms by blocking histamine release.
The dosage of Zaditor is contingent upon individual medical needs and response to treatment. The recommended dose is one drop in the affected eye(s), administered twice daily, with an interval of 8 to 12 hours, per package instructions or as directed by a healthcare professional.
To apply eye drops, first, wash hands thoroughly to prevent contamination. To avoid further contamination, do not touch the dropper tip or allow it to come into contact with the eye or any other surface.
To administer the medication:
- Tilt the head back, gaze upward, and pull down the lower eyelid to form a small pouch.
- Place the dropper directly over the eye and apply one drop to the lower eyelid.
- Afterward, look downwards and gently close the eye for 1 to 2 minutes, exerting slight pressure at the corner of the eye near the nose. This will prevent the medication from draining out and ensure maximum efficacy. Avoid rubbing the eye and refrain from blinking during this time.
After use, the dropper cap should be replaced, and the bottle should be tightly closed, without rinsing the dropper.
