Description
IndicationsÂ
Vraylar (cariprazine) is an antipsychotic medication that is clinically utilized for the treatment of mental health and mood disorders, including schizophrenia, certain types of bipolar I disorder, and as an adjunctive therapy for major depressive disorder (MDD). Â
Administered in the form of a once-daily capsule, Vraylar is known to regulate neurotransmitters in the brain, such as dopamine and serotonin, although the exact mechanism of action remains unknown. Â
Vraylar’s therapeutic effect is due to its partial agonist activity at central dopamine Dâ‚‚ and serotonin 5-HT1A receptors and antagonist activity at serotonin 5-HT2A receptors. Â
Vraylar is indicated for use in adults with schizophrenia, acute manic or mixed episodes associated with bipolar I disorder, depressive episodes associated with bipolar I disorder (bipolar depression), and as an adjunctive therapy to an antidepressant for major depressive disorder (MDD).Â
Uses and DosageÂ
Read the Medication Guide provided by your pharmacist prior to initiating cariprazine therapy, and upon receiving a refill. In case you have any queries, do not hesitate to consult your physician or pharmacist.Â
This medication is taken orally, with or without food, once daily, as prescribed by your doctor. The dosage will depend on several factors such as your medical condition, response to treatment, and concurrent medication use. Â
Inform your doctor and pharmacist about all products, including prescription drugs, over-the-counter drugs, and herbal remedies, that you are currently using.Â
To minimize the risk of adverse effects, your physician may recommend starting with a low dose and gradually increasing it. Adhere strictly to your doctor’s instructions.Â
For optimal therapeutic benefit, take this medication regularly at the same time each day. If you find it difficult to remember, you may consider setting an alarm to remind you.Â
Do not alter the dosage, frequency or duration of use beyond the prescribed regimen. Doing so will not hasten your recovery, but will increase your risk of side effects. If your condition does not improve or deteriorates, inform your doctor promptly.Â

CautionsÂ
Prior to taking cariprazine, inform your physician or pharmacist about any known allergies to the medication or other allergens. This product may contain inactive elements that can elicit allergic reactions or other adverse effects. Â
Before using this medication, make sure to notify your doctor or pharmacist about your medical history, especially if you have a history of cerebrovascular disease, stroke, diabetes, heart failure, arrhythmias, dehydration, hypertension, nervous system disorders (such as dementia, neuroleptic malignant syndrome, seizures), obesity, low white blood cell count (caused by medications), or swallowing difficulties.Â
Using cariprazine can lead to reduced sweating, increasing the risk of heat stroke. Avoid activities that can cause overheating, such as strenuous exercise or work in hot weather, and the use of hot tubs. During hot weather, ensure that you drink enough fluids and dress lightly. If you experience overheating, quickly look for a place to cool down and rest. Seek medical assistance immediately if you have a persistent fever, headache, dizziness, or mental/mood changes.Â
