Uses and Dosage
Before using diclofenac, carefully read the Medication Guide and Patient Instructions for Use provided by your pharmacist. Review these instructions each time you refill your prescription and to seek guidance from your doctor or pharmacist if you have any questions.
This medication is intended for topical use only, and the correct dose should be measured using the dosing card(s) that come with the medication. To use the dosing card, place it on a flat surface and apply an even line of medication from the tube onto the card, using the marks on the card to measure the prescribed dose.
The medication should then be gently rubbed into the entire affected joint, generally four times daily, or as directed by your doctor. Do not apply the medication to skin that has cuts, infections, or rashes.
If the package instructions indicate that the dosing card may be reused, it should be rinsed and dried after each use. When you are ready to dispose of the dosing card, fold it in half with the medication side inside and discard it out of the reach of children and pets.
After applying the medication, wash your hands unless you are treating the hands. Do not bathe, shower, or wash the treated area for at least an hour after application, and wait at least 10 minutes before covering the area with gloves or clothing. Do not wrap, bandage, or apply heat to the treated area, such as with a heating pad.
