Description

Indications

Vigamox is an ophthalmic medication prescribed for the treatment of bacterial conjunctivitis resulting from certain susceptible strains of organisms.

Classified as a fluoroquinolone antibiotic, Vigamox functions by eradicating the causative bacteria responsible for the infection.

Uses and Dosage

Before using Vigamox and every time you get a prescription refill, carefully review the medication guide and patient information leaflet provided by your pharmacist. If you have any concerns or queries, do not hesitate to consult with your healthcare provider or pharmacist.

Typically, one drop of Vigamox is applied to the affected eye(s) 3 times a day for 7 days as prescribed by the doctor.

To properly use this eye drop, follow these steps:

  1. Begin by washing your hands thoroughly.
  2. To prevent contamination, do not touch the dropper tip or allow it to contact any surfaces.
  3. Tilt your head back, directing your gaze upward, and gently pull down your lower eyelid to create a small pouch.
  4. Position the dropper directly over the eye and gently squeeze it to release a single drop into the pouch.
  5. Look downward and gently close your eyes for 1 to 2 minutes, placing one finger at the corner of the eye near the nose and applying gentle pressure to prevent the medication from draining away. Avoid blinking and refrain from rubbing the eye during this time.
  6. If your prescription requires more than one drop in the same eye, wait at least 5 minutes before administering the next drop.
  7. If both eyes require medication, repeat steps 3 through 5 for the other eye.
  8. Replace the cap securely on the dropper bottle after each application; rinsing or wiping the dropper tip unnecessary.
  9. Finally, wash your hands thoroughly to remove any residual medication.

To achieve optimal outcomes, use Vigamox regularly at the same times daily.

Adhere strictly to the prescribed dosage and duration of use, as premature discontinuation of this medication may lead to a recurrence of the infection.

Cautions

Before starting treatment with Vigamox, inform your doctor if you have any known allergies, particularly to moxifloxacin or to quinolone antibiotics like ciprofloxacin.

Ask your pharmacist for more details about Vigamox, as it may contain inactive ingredients that may cause allergic reactions or other complications.

Vigamox use may result in blurred vision; exercise caution when operating vehicles or engaging in activities demanding alertness and clear vision.

Extended or frequent use of Vigamox can lead to the development of a secondary infection.

The potential effects of Vigamox on an unborn baby are uncertain. Inform your doctor if you are pregnant or intend to conceive while using this medication.
