Description
Indications
Febuxostat is a pharmacological agent indicated for the management of gout by reducing the production of uric acid in the body. Elevation of uric acid levels can lead to the development of gout. Nonetheless, caution should be taken when using febuxostat due to the risk of severe cardiovascular and cerebrovascular events, as highlighted in the Warning section.
Therefore, febuxostat should be administered solely when previous attempts at reducing uric acid levels using allopurinol have been ineffective, resulted in significant adverse effects, or have not been recommended by a qualified physician. febuxostat should only be utilized to treat patients who exhibit symptoms associated with high blood uric acid levels.
Uses and Dosage
Please ensure that this medication is taken orally, either with or without food, as instructed by your physician, usually once per day. The dose prescribed will be based on your medical condition and your body’s response to treatment. For optimal results, take this medication regularly and at the same time each day.
You can experience a higher frequency of gout attacks for several months following the commencement of this medication as the body removes excess uric acid. Please note that febuxostat is not intended to relieve pain. During the initial months of febuxostat treatment, your doctor may prescribe other medications, such as colchicine or nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) like ibuprofen, naproxen, or indomethacin, to prevent or treat a gout attack. Please continue to take the medications prescribed for your gout attacks as directed by your physician.
