Topicort Cream is a prescribed medication used to alleviate the inflammatory and itching symptoms associated with corticosteroid-responsive skin conditions, including eczema, dermatitis, allergies, and rashes. 

As a corticosteroid, Topicort Cream works by stimulating the skin’s natural compounds to diminish inflammation, redness, and itching. 

Uses and Dosage 

Before using Topicort Cream and with every prescription refill, carefully review its medication guide and patient information leaflet. Seek guidance from your healthcare provider or pharmacist if you have any questions. 

Topicort Cream is intended for topical application only. Refrain from applying it to the face, groin, or underarms unless specifically instructed by your doctor. 

Typically, this cream is applied to the affected skin areas twice daily as prescribed by the doctor.  

To properly utilize Topicort Cream, follow these steps: 

1. Begin by washing and thoroughly drying your hands. 
2. Next, clean and dry the affected area. 
3. As directed by your doctor, apply a thin layer of the cream to the affected area and gently massage it in. 
   • Unless instructed otherwise by your doctor, avoid covering, bandaging, or wrapping the treated area. 
   • When applying this cream near your eyes, take care not to allow it to come into contact with your eyes, as it may worsen or cause glaucoma. 
   • Be cautious not to apply this cream in the nose or mouth. In case of accidental contact with the eyes, nose, or mouth, rinse thoroughly with an ample amount of water. 
4. After applying the cream, remember to wash your hands, unless you are using it to treat your hands. 

For optimal results, use Topicort Cream exactly as directed. Do not exceed the prescribed amount, frequency, or apply it to unapproved areas of your body or for other skin conditions unless directed by your doctor. 

Notify your doctor if your condition persists or deteriorates. 

Side Effects 

Listed below are the potential adverse effects of Topicort Cream. Should any of these effects last or worsen, promptly inform your doctor. 

Common Side Effects 

• Burning, itching, irritation, or dryness upon initial application of this cream to the skin. 

Serious Side Effects 

• Stretch marks 
• Skin thinning or discoloration 
• Acne 
• Excessive hair growth 
• Small red skin bumps (folliculitis) 

Inform your doctor right away if you experience any of the serious side effects listed above. 

On rare occasions, Topicort Cream can be absorbed through the skin into the bloodstream, potentially causing excessive corticosteroid-related side effects. These occurrences are more common in children and individuals who use the medication extensively or over an extended period. Promptly inform your doctor if you experience any of the following side effects:  

• Unusual fatigue 
• Unexplained weight loss 
• Headaches 
• Swelling in the ankles or feet 
• Heightened thirst or urination 
• Vision issues 

Allergic Reactions 

Although rare, a severe allergic reaction to Topicort Cream may occur. Prompt medical help is necessary upon observing any indications of an allergic response, including: 

• Rash 
• Itching or swelling, especially in the face, tongue, or throat 
• Severe dizziness 
• Difficulty breathing 

Not all side effects of Topicort Cream are included in this list. Report to your doctor if any unlisted effects are experienced. 

Cautions 

Before starting treatment with Topicort Cream, inform your doctor of any known allergies, particularly to desoximetasone or to other corticosteroids (e.g., hydrocortisone, prednisone). 

Consult your pharmacist for additional information about Topicort Cream, as it may contain inactive ingredients that may lead to allergic reactions or other complications. 

To ensure Topicort Cream is safe for you, disclose to your physician your medical background, especially if you have a history of: 

• Impaired blood circulation 
• Immune system deficiencies 

Notify all your healthcare providers of any current or recently started or stopped medications, including prescription and over-the-counter drugs, vitamins, and herbal supplements, to lower the risk of drug interaction with Topicort Cream. 

Topicort Cream has the potential to impact growth in children and adolescents, necessitating regular growth assessments.  

Seek medical advice before using Topicort Cream during pregnancy, considering the necessity, and weighing the associated risks and benefits. 

The transfer of desoximetasone into breast milk through skin application is uncertain. However, comparable medications can enter breast milk when ingested orally. Prior to breastfeeding, consult with your healthcare provider.
