Indications 

Tambocor is a prescription medicine indicated for treating life-threatening irregular heart rhythms, including sustained ventricular tachycardia and paroxysmal supraventricular tachycardia. 

Tambocor may also be utilized to prevent recurrent irregular heart rhythms, such as atrial fibrillation. 

As an anti-arrhythmic drug, Tambocor works by retarding electrical impulses in the heart, thereby reinstating a regular cardiac rhythm, and sustaining a consistent, steady heartbeat. 

Uses and Dosage 

Before taking Tambocor and with every prescription refill, carefully review its medication guide and patient information leaflet. Should you have any questions, consult your physician or pharmacist. 

The dosage of this medication is determined based on the patient’s age, medical condition, response to the treatment, and concurrent medication use. 

Typically, Tambocor is taken every 12 hours as prescribed by the doctor, regardless of food intake.  

In some cases, a patient who is insufficiently managed by or intolerant to a 12-hour interval dose might receive doses every eight hours. 

To achieve optimal results, take Tambocor exactly as directed at around the same times daily. Avoid exceeding or reducing the recommended dose and taking it more frequently than instructed by your doctor. 

Continue taking this medication even if you feel better, and seek medical advice before discontinuing it, as abruptly stopping may exacerbate your condition. 

Side Effects 

Listed below are the potential adverse effects of Tambocor. Inform your doctor promptly if any of them last or worsen. 

Common Side Effects 

• Dizziness 
• Vision problems 
• Difficulty breathing 
• Headache 
• Nausea 
• A sensation of weakness or fatigue 

Serious Side Effects 

• Rapid or pounding heartbeats 
• Fluttering sensation in the chest, accompanied by sudden dizziness and shortness of breath (possible fainting sensation) 
• Slow heart rate, weak pulse, or slow breathing (breathing may stop) 
• Breathlessness 
• Swelling and sudden weight gain 
• Paleness, abnormal bruising or bleeding, unusual weakness 
• Fever and symptoms resembling the flu 
• Jaundice, characterized by yellowing of the skin or eyes 

Call your doctor immediately if any of the serious side effects above are experienced. 

Allergic Reactions 

Although rare, a severe allergic reaction to Tambocor may occur. Seek prompt medical help in case of any signs of an allergic reaction, such as: 

• Hives 
• Difficulty breathing 
• Swelling of the face, lips, tongue, or throat 

Not all side effects of Tambocor are included in this list. Tell your doctor if any unlisted effects are experienced. 

Cautions 

Before starting treatment with Tambocor, inform your doctor if you have any known allergies, particularly to flecainide or other medications. 

Consult your pharmacist for further information about Tambocor, as it may contain inactive components that may cause allergic reactions or other complications. 

To ensure Tambocor is safe for you, disclose to your physician your medical background, especially if you have a history of: 

• Kidney problems 
• Liver problems 
• Cardiac issues (e.g., previous heart attack, heart pacemaker) 

Notify all healthcare providers of any current or recently started or stopped medications, including prescription and over-the-counter drugs, vitamins, and herbal supplements, to minimize the possibility of drug interaction with Tambocor. 

Certain medications can influence the elimination of Tambocor from your system, potentially impacting its effectiveness. Such medications include: 

• Asunaprevir 
• Cimetidine 
• Fluconazole 
• Specific HIV protease inhibitors (e.g., tipranavir)  
• Ritonavir 
• Anti-seizure medications (e.g., phenytoin, phenobarbital) 

The use of Tambocor may cause dizziness. Avoid driving, operating machinery, or engaging in activities requiring alertness until you can do so safely.  

Consumption of alcohol or marijuana (cannabis) may exacerbate the dizziness caused by Tambocor. Consume alcoholic beverages in moderation and consult your physician if using marijuana (cannabis). 

Tambocor has the potential to induce QT prolongation, a heart rhythm disorder that can rarely lead to life-threatening symptoms like fast irregular heartbeat, severe dizziness, and fainting. Immediate medical attention is necessary in such cases. 

The potential impact of Tambocor on an unborn child is uncertain. Inform your doctor if you are pregnant or intend to become pregnant while taking this medication. 

Breastfeeding might not be advisable while on Tambocor. Consult your doctor to discuss potential risks.
