Indications 

Stalevo 200 is a prescription medication used to treat symptoms of Parkinson’s disease, such as shakiness, stiffness, and difficulty moving.  

Stalevo 200 is available in the form of film-coated tablets, with each tablet containing 200 mg of entacapone, along with carbidopa and levodopa in a specific ratio. Carbidopa helps prevent the breakdown of levodopa in the bloodstream, allowing more of it to reach the brain and be converted into dopamine. Levodopa is converted into dopamine, a neurotransmitter that helps regulate movement. Entacapone prolongs the effects of levodopa by inhibiting an enzyme that breaks it down. 

Use and Dosage 

Stalevo 200 is an oral tablet that is typically taken 3 to 4 times a day, as prescribed by your doctor. It can be taken with or without food and should be swallowed whole with a glass of water. Do not crush, chew, or break the tablet unless specifically instructed by your healthcare professional, as this may affect how the medication is released and absorbed in your body. 

The dosage and frequency of Stalevo 200 will vary based on individual factors, such as the severity of symptoms and response to treatment. Follow the instructions of your healthcare professional regarding the prescribed dosage and administration. 

If you happen to miss a dose, take it as soon as you remember. However, if it is close to the time for your next scheduled dose, it is best to skip the missed dose and continue with your regular dosing schedule.

Cautions 

• Sedative Effects: Stalevo 200 may have additive sedative effects. Caution should be exercised when using Stalevo 200, especially in combination with other medications that have sedative effects. Follow the instructions of your healthcare professional and report any excessive drowsiness or sedation. 
• Drug Interactions: Stalevo 200 may interact with other medications, both prescription and non-prescription drugs, as well as herbal supplements. Keep a list of all the products you use and inform your healthcare professional about them. They can assess potential drug interactions and adjust your treatment plan accordingly. 
• Daytime Sleepiness: Stalevo 200 may cause problems with daytime sleepiness. If you experience excessive sleepiness or drowsiness during the day, inform your healthcare professional. 
• Individual Response: Each person may respond differently to Stalevo 200. Closely monitor your symptoms and report any changes or concerns to your healthcare professional. They can evaluate your response to the medication and make any necessary adjustments to your treatment plan. 
• Hypotension: Stalevo 200 may cause a drop in blood pressure, leading to symptoms such as dizziness or lightheadedness. If you experience these symptoms, get up slowly from a sitting or lying position and inform your healthcare professional. 
• Hallucinations and Psychiatric Effects: Stalevo 200 can potentially cause hallucinations, confusion, agitation, or other psychiatric effects. If you notice any changes in your mood, behavior, or experience hallucinations, inform your healthcare professional right away. 
• Dyskinesia: Stalevo 200 may cause or worsen abnormal involuntary movements known as dyskinesia in some individuals.  
• Liver Function: Stalevo 200 may affect liver function. Regular monitoring of liver function tests may be necessary, especially if you have a history of liver disease or are taking other medications that can affect the liver. Inform your healthcare professional if you experience symptoms such as yellowing of the skin or eyes (jaundice), dark urine, or persistent abdominal pain. 
• Cardiovascular Events: There have been reports of cardiovascular events such as heart attacks or irregular heartbeat (arrhythmias) in patients taking Stalevo 200.  
• Melanoma: There have been rare reports of melanoma, a type of skin cancer, in patients taking Stalevo 200. Regularly check your skin for any changes, such as new moles or changes in existing moles, and report them to your healthcare professional.
