Rythmol is a prescribed medication used for preventing severe heart rhythm disorders, such as paroxysmal supraventricular tachycardia and atrial fibrillation. 

As an anti-arrhythmic drug, Rythmol functions by inhibiting specific heart electrical signals that trigger irregular heartbeats, restoring normal heart rhythm and maintaining a regular, steady heartbeat. 

Uses and Dosage 

Before starting treatment with Rythmol and with each prescription refill, carefully review its medication guide and patient information leaflet. Should any inquiries arise, do not hesitate to consult your healthcare provider or pharmacist. 

The dosage of Rythmol is determined based on the patient’s medical condition and response to the treatment. 

Typically, this medication is taken three times daily, with an 8-hour gap between each dose, or as instructed by the doctor, irrespective of food consumption. 

For optimal results, take Ryhtmol exactly as directed. Avoid exceeding or reducing the prescribed dosage and frequency of intake without your doctor’s approval. 

Do not discontinue this medication even if you feel well; sudden cessation may lead to irregular heartbeats. 

Side Effects 

Listed below are the potential adverse effects of Rythmol. Notify your doctor right away if any of them last or worsen. 

Common Side Effects 

• Irregular heartbeats 
• Nausea, vomiting, or constipation 
• Headache, dizziness, or tiredness 
• Unusual or unpleasant taste in the mouth 

Serious Side Effects 

• Shortness of breath (even with mild exertion) 
• Swelling in arms or legs 
• Sudden weight gain 
• Fever, chills, or sore throat 
• Signs of new or worsening heartbeat pattern:  
  • Fast or pounding heartbeats 
  • Fluttering in the chest 
  • Shortness of breath 
  • Sudden dizziness (feeling faint) 

Call your doctor right away if you encounter any serious side effects. 

Allergic Reactions 

Although rare, a severe allergic reaction to Rythmol may occur. Seek prompt medical assistance if you encounter any signs of an allergic response, such as: 

• Hives 
• Breathing difficulties 
• Face, lips, tongue, or throat swelling

Cautions 

Before starting treatment with Rythmol, inform your doctor if you have any known allergies, particularly to propafenone or other medications.

To ensure Rythmol is safe for you, disclose to your physician your medical background, especially if you have a history of:

• Myasthenia gravis 
• Brugada Syndrome (an inherited heart condition) 

Inform all your healthcare providers of any current or recently started or stopped medications, including prescription and over-the-counter drugs, vitamins, and herbal supplements, to lower the possibility of drug interaction with Rythmol. 

The efficacy of Rythmol may be influenced by interactions with other medications that affect its removal from the body. Some of them are: 

• Asunaprevir  
• Desipramine  
• Ketoconazole  
• Orlistat  
• Phenobarbital 
• Phenytoin  
• Ritonavir  
• Certain HIV protease inhibitors (e.g., tipranavir) 

Rythmol can impede the elimination of certain medications from the body, potentially influencing their effectiveness. Examples of affected drugs include: 

• Digoxin  
• Fezolinetant  
• Imipramine  
• Metoprolol  
• Propranolol  
• Warfarin 

Avoid the consumption of grapefruit products while taking Rythmol, as they may interact and result in undesirable side effects. 

While on Rythmol treatment, there is a possibility of experiencing significantly low blood pressure. If you encounter symptoms such as vomiting, diarrhea, extreme thirst, loss of appetite, or excessive sweating, contact your doctor promptly. 

Rythmol may potentially induce a heart rhythm condition called QT prolongation, which can rarely lead to serious (and rarely fatal) fast/irregular heartbeat and other symptoms like severe dizziness or fainting. In such cases, immediate medical attention is necessary. 

Rhythmol may induce drowsiness or dizziness. Refrain from driving or operating machinery until you ascertain its impact on you. 

The use of Rythmol can potentially hinder men’s ability to conceive. Discuss any concerns about this potential risk with your healthcare provider. 

During pregnancy, Rythmol should be administered only if absolutely necessary. Consult with your doctor to weigh the potential risks and benefits. 

Propafenone is excreted into breast milk. Seek advice from your doctor before breastfeeding.
