Description

Indications

Protonix (pantoprazole sodium) is an oral medication that is indicated for the treatment of erosive esophagitis associated with gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) and pathological hypersecretory conditions, including Zollinger-Ellison syndrome.

Its therapeutic effects include relieving symptoms such as persistent cough, heartburn, and difficulty swallowing, as well as preventing ulcers and esophageal cancer.

As a proton pump inhibitor (PPI), Protonix works by inhibiting the final step in gastric acid production, thereby blocking basal and stimulated gastric acid secretion. The antisecretory effect of the medication can last for up to 24 hours.

Uses and Dosage

To ensure safe and effective use of this product, please carefully review the medication information leaflet before taking this oral PPI. Only take this medication if you fully understand the drug information and instructions provided in the guide. If you have any additional queries or need further medical advice, consult your doctor or pharmacist.

This delayed-release tablet should be taken orally, usually once daily, with or without food. Swallow the tablet whole and drink a full glass of water immediately afterwards. Do not chew, crush, or divide the tablet, as it may impact its effectiveness.

Take this oral tablet regularly and as directed by your healthcare provider. Establish a dosing schedule to ensure that you do not miss a dose. If you are prescribed other antacids, particularly sucralfate, take Protonix at least 30 minutes prior to avoid potential drug interactions.

Do not adjust your dosage or length of treatment unless instructed by your healthcare provider, as it will depend on your medical condition and response to the medication. Additionally, do not discontinue this medication abruptly as it may worsen your medical condition.
