Description
Indications
Plavix is a medication that functions by inhibiting platelet aggregation, thus preventing the formation of unwanted blood clots that could potentially occlude an artery.
Prescribed for the purpose of reducing the likelihood of stroke, blood clotting, or severe cardiovascular events in individuals who have experienced a prior heart attack, angina, or circulatory issues.
Uses and Dosage
Prior to commencing therapy with clopidogrel, carefully read the Medication Guide and to consult with a physician or pharmacist in the event of any questions.
Administration of the medication may occur with or without food, as directed by the physician, and typically occurs once daily.
Consistent administration of the medication is advised to ensure maximal therapeutic benefit, with a suggested approach being to take it at the same time each day as a reminder.
Dosage and duration of treatment are tailored to the patient’s medical condition and response to therapy, and may involve extended administration with aspirin after procedures such as stent implantation, for a duration ranging from several months to years, as directed by the prescribing physician.
Important to remain vigilant of the risks of discontinuing medication early, and to consult with a physician prior to making any changes to the prescribed regimen.

Caution
Plavix is a medication that prevents blood coagulation to mitigate the risk of blood clots in individuals with certain heart or blood vessel conditions. This effect of the drug increases the likelihood of bleeding, even from minor injuries. However, if you are experiencing any active bleeding, such as a stomach ulcer or brain bleed, do not use this medication.
In the event of persistent bleeding, blood in urine, black or bloody stools, or coughing or vomiting blood resembling coffee grounds, seek medical attention immediately. Consult your doctor before discontinuing the use of Plavix, even if you are experiencing signs of bleeding, as stopping the medication could raise the risk of heart attack or stroke.
If you require surgery or dental procedures, inform your surgeon or dentist in advance that you are taking Plavix.
