Take the medication regularly at the same time(s) each day and do not increase the dose or take it more often than prescribed. If using nonprescription famotidine, take one tablet by mouth with water as needed for acid indigestion or heartburn, or take 1 tablet before eating foods or drinking beverages that cause heartburn. Do not take more than 2 tablets in 24 hours or for more than 14 days in a row without talking with your doctor. Do not stop taking the medication without your doctor’s approval.
