Description
Indications
Otezla (apremilast) is an oral medication taken twice daily to reduce inflammation in the treatment of specific types of psoriatic arthritis, plaque psoriasis, and Behçet’s disease.
Otezla works by inhibiting an enzyme in the immune system that can affect certain cells and contribute to inflammation throughout the body. As a member of the phosphodiesterase-4 inhibitor group of medications, Otezla increases the level of cyclic adenosine monophosphate (cAMP), a messenger system in the body, to reduce inflammation. Unlike biologic agents, Otezla is not derived from living organisms.
