Description
Indications
This pharmaceutical agent is indicated for treating specific allergic ocular disorders, namely vernal keratoconjunctivitis, vernal conjunctivitis, and vernal keratitis. Its primary function is to mitigate ocular pruritus associated with these conditions. Cromolyn, recognized as a mast cell stabilizing agent, exerts its therapeutic effect by inhibiting specific endogenous compounds, namely histamine and SRS-A, which are responsible for eliciting allergic manifestations.
Uses and Dosage
When administering eye drops, commence the procedure with meticulous hand hygiene. To prevent any potential contamination, refrain from direct contact between the dropper tip and the eye or any other surfaces.
Refrain from wearing contact lenses during this medication.
Adhere to your healthcare provider’s instructions for applying this medication in the affected eye(s), which typically entails a regimen of four times daily. The duration of treatment may extend for up to three months.
To facilitate the application, assume a reclined position, tilt your head backward, gaze upwards, and gently pull down the lower eyelid to create a receptacle. Position the dropper directly above the eye and instill one drop into the created pouch. Afterward, direct your gaze downward and softly close your eyes for one to two minutes. Applying gentle pressure at the inner corner of the eye near the nose with a fingertip will help prevent medication runoff. Avoid blinking and resist the urge to rub the eye. If the prescribed dose involves more than one drop, or if instructed, repeat these steps accordingly and replicate the process for the opposite look.
Refrain from rinsing the dropper. Following each use, securely replace the dropper cap.
For optimal therapeutic outcomes, adhere to a consistent schedule for medication usage, taking care to apply it at consistent intervals throughout the day. Continue using the medication for the entirety of the prescribed duration.
