This pharmaceutical agent is prescribed to alleviate nasal symptoms, including nasal congestion, runny nose, pruritus, and sneezing, associated with seasonal and perennial allergic rhinitis. Ciclesonide mitigates the inflammatory response within the nasal passages and is categorized within the pharmacological group of corticosteroids. 

Uses and Dosage 

Before administering this medication, gently expel mucus from your nasal passages. Give the container a gentle shake before each use. Remove the protective dust cap. Adhere to the provided instructions for the initial priming of the bottle and repeat this if the bottle has not been used for four days. A fine mist spray indicates successful priming of the pump. 

Utilize this medication following the guidance provided by your physician, typically once daily. Refrain from exceeding two sprays per nostril in a single day, as exceeding this dosage may heighten the risk of adverse effects. Exercise caution to prevent the medication from contacting your eyes or the nasal septum (the partition between the two nostrils). Comply diligently with the comprehensive instructions about the application of the spray. 

Following each usage, cleanse the spray tip with a clean tissue and secure the protective cap. In the event of blockage of the nasal applicator, avoid attempting to clear it using sharp objects and consult the Patient Information Leaflet for proper instructions on resolving this issue. 

Maintain a regular dosing schedule to maximize the therapeutic benefits of this medication. To facilitate adherence, administer it at the same time each day. 

Monitor and record the number of sprays administered from each container. Discard the container after reaching the specified number of jets indicated on the manufacturer’s packaging or four months after removing the bottle from its original foil pouch, whichever occurs first.

Potential adverse effects associated with the use of this medication may include: 

• Nosebleeds 
• Nasal irritation 
• Ear discomfort 

If these symptoms persist or worsen, promptly inform your healthcare provider or pharmacist. 

Severe Side Effects

Keep in mind that your physician has prescribed this medication because they have evaluated that its therapeutic benefits outweigh the potential risks of side effects. A significant number of individuals who utilize this medication do not experience severe side effects. 

On rare occasions, the possibility of corticosteroids administered intranasally being absorbed into the bloodstream exists. This absorption can give rise to side effects indicative of an excessive corticosteroid presence. These side effects are more prone to occur in children and individuals who employ this medication over extended durations and at high dosages. Should any of the ensuing side effects manifest, promptly notify your healthcare provider: 

• Unusual or extreme fatigue 
• Unexplained weight loss 
• Persistent headache 
• Swelling of the ankles or feet 
• Heightened thirst and urination 
• Alterations in vision 

The prolonged use of corticosteroids within the nasal cavity may, albeit rarely, lead to fungal infections in the nasal passages or throat. If you experience any of the following symptoms, inform your healthcare provider immediately:  

• Fever 
• Nasal pain 
• Severe sore throat 
• Discomfort during swallowing 
• The presence of white patches on the posterior aspect of the throat 

Cautions 

Before initiating ciclesonide treatment, apprise your healthcare provider or pharmacist of any known allergies, whether to ciclesonide itself or to any other substances. This pharmaceutical product may contain inactive components capable of inducing allergic reactions or other complications. For additional insights, consult your pharmacist. 

Before commencing the use of this medication, disclose your medical history to your physician or pharmacist, particularly if you have recently experienced nasal issues (such as injury, ulcers, or surgical procedures) or have an account of current or past infections (including tuberculosis or herpes eye infections). Provide information regarding any preexisting eye conditions, such as glaucoma or cataracts. 

In rare instances, the extended use of corticosteroid medications can render your body less responsive to physical stress. Therefore, inform your doctor or dentist if you are currently using this medication or have used it within the past few months, especially before undergoing surgery, emergency medical treatment, or in the event of a severe illness or injury.
