Indications 

Needle BD Duo Autoshield Pen Needle is a safety pen needle used to facilitate safe insulin injections. 

It features a 5mm needle that eliminates the need to pinch the skin during insulin administration and reduces the risk of intramuscular (IM) injections, which can raise the likelihood of hypoglycemia in patients. 

Furthermore, Needle BD Duo Autoshield Pen Needle has a large barrel for easy handling and attachment, an outer shield to conceal the needle from patients, and dual-protection shields on both ends to prevent needlestick exposure and injuries during injection and disposal. 

Uses and Dosages  

Needle BD Duo Autoshield Pen Needle is compatible with commonly used pen injection devices. 

To use this Duo Autoshield Pen Needle correctly, follow these steps: 

1. Attach the pen needle to your pen injection device, making sure not to over-tighten. 
2. Remove the outer cover of the pen needle and verify its correct attachment to the pen injection device. 
3. Prime the pen injection device following the manufacturer’s instructions until a drop of insulin appears at the pen needle. 
4. After priming, choose the required insulin dose and inject straight in at a 90-degree angle; no second hand, no pinch-up technique. 
   • Hold into position for up to 10 seconds or as directed in the manufacturer’s instructions for the pen injection device hold time. 
   • Avoid raising the pen needle into the skin before completing the injection to prevent premature activation of the shield, which may result in incomplete dose delivery.  
5. After administering the dose, detach the pen needle from the pen injection device by holding the white sleeve and twisting the pen needle off.  
   • A red band indicator will confirm that the safety shield is locked, protecting the cannula. 
6. Dispose of the pen needle in the sharp’s container. 

Cautions 

Some patients such as children aged 2 to 6, exceptionally slender adults, or individuals with loose skin may find it necessary to employ a pinch-up technique when using Needle BD Duo Autoshield Pen Needle.  

When using Needle BD Duo Autoshield Pen Needle with a pinch-up technique: 

• Keep your fingers at least 2.5cm apart. 
• Avoid inserting the pen needle at an angle toward your finger to prevent needle-stick injuries.
