Indications 

Mycelex Troche is a prescribed medication for treating oral yeast infections in adults and children aged 3 and above.  

This medication is also indicated as a preventive measure for oral yeast infections in patients undergoing treatments that may compromise the immune system, such as chemotherapy. 

Classified as an azole antifungal agent, Mycelex Troche functions by inhibiting the growth of fungi responsible for infections. 

Uses and Dosage 

Before starting treatment with Mycelex Troche and with each prescription refill, carefully review its medication guide and patient information leaflet. Ask your physician or pharmacist if you have any questions or uncertainties. 

Mycelex Troche comes as a lozenge designed to dissolve gradually in the mouth for 15-30 minutes. Refrain from chewing or swallowing it whole and avoid eating or drinking while the medication is in use. 

The usual dosing regimen for this medication is as follows: 

• For the treatment of yeast infections, it is typically taken five times a day for 14 days. 
• For the prevention of yeast infections, it is typically taken three times a day. The duration of prevention treatment varies based on individual conditions. 

If your doctor has prescribed a different regimen, strictly follow their instructions. 

For optimal efficacy, maintain a consistent level of Mycelex Troche in your system by taking it regularly at evenly spaced intervals. 

Complete the entire course of Mycelex Troche as prescribed, even if symptoms improve within a few days. Ceasing this medication prematurely could enable the growth of the fungus, potentially leading to a recurrence of the infection. 

If your condition persists or worsens, inform your doctor. 

Side Effects 

Mycelex Troche does not usually cause serious side effects. Nevertheless, there are common side effects that you should be aware of, such as: 

• Nausea 
• Vomiting 
• Mild itching 
• An uncomfortable sensation in the mouth 

If any of these effects persist or worsen, promptly inform your doctor. 

Allergic Reactions 

Although rare, a severe allergic reaction to Mycelex Troche may occur. Prompt medical assistance must be sought if you experience any of the following symptoms: 

• Rash 
• Itching/swelling (especially of the face/tongue/throat) 
• Severe dizziness 
• Trouble breathing

Cautions 

Before starting treatment with Mycelex Troche, inform your doctor if you have any known hypersensitivities, especially to: 

• Clotrimazole 
• Other azole antifungal drugs (e.g., ketoconazole) 
• Other medications 
• Any ingredients present in this lozenge 

To ensure Mycelex troche is safe for you, disclose your medical background to your physician, especially if you have a history of liver disease. 

Some products may interact with Mycelex Troche, including rifamycins (e.g., rifampin) and tacrolimus. Tell your doctor and pharmacist about all prescription, nonprescription medications, vitamins, supplements, and herbal products you currently use or intend to use to prevent such drug interaction. 

Before using Mycelex Troche during pregnancy, consult with a doctor to evaluate whether the benefits outweigh the potential risks to the fetus.  

The transfer of clotrimazole into breast milk is uncertain. Consult your doctor before breastfeeding when using this medication.
