Metamucil Smooth is indicated for the relief of occasional constipation (bowel irregularity). 

As a bulk-forming laxative, Metamucil Smooth promotes intestinal movement by adding volume to the stool. Furthermore, it increases water content in the stool, making it softer and more easily passable. 

Uses and Dosage 

Carefully read and adhere to the instructions provided on Metamucil Smooth packaging before initial use and with each refill. For any inquiries or additional information, consult your healthcare provider or pharmacist. 

Metamucil Smooth is a powdered medication intended to be mixed with water and taken orally once to three times daily. 

The dosage of this medication varies depending on the individual’s age. Strictly follow the dosage instructions on the product package or adhere to your doctor’s prescription if this medication has been prescribed. 

To properly take this medication, follow these steps: 

1. Measure the powdered medication per the package insert or your doctor’s prescription. 
2. Mix the powder in a full glass of water or another liquid (8 ounces/240 milliliters). 
3. Stir thoroughly and consume immediately. 
   • If the mixture becomes too thick, additional liquid may be added. 

Exercise caution to avoid inhaling the powder during preparation, as it may rarely trigger an allergic reaction. 

Metamucil Smooth may cause choking if not taken with sufficient liquid, as it can swell in the throat. Ensure adequate fluid intake daily to support improved bowel regularity. 

Do not take this medication for more than 7 consecutive days unless specifically advised by your healthcare provider. 

Seek medical advice if your condition persists, worsens, or if rectal bleeding occurs. If you suspect a severe medical issue, seek immediate medical attention.

• Trouble breathing 
• Swelling of the face, lips, tongue, or throat

Cautions

Before using Metamucil Smooth, consult with a healthcare professional if you are currently taking any medications, including prescription and non-prescription medicines, as well as vitamins and herbal supplements, to prevent drug interactions. 

Metamucil Smooth may hinder the absorption of orally administered medications, potentially reducing their effectiveness. To mitigate this effect, take any oral medicines two hours before or after consuming Metamucil Smooth. 

Pregnant women and nursing mothers should seek advice from their healthcare providers before using Metamucil Smooth to evaluate its safety for them and their babies.
