Indications 

Lozol is prescribed for the management of hypertension (high blood pressure), either as a monotherapy or in conjunction with other antihypertensive medications. Lowering high blood pressure aids in the prevention of strokes, heart attacks, and kidney complications. 

Lozol is also indicated for the management of sodium and fluid retention in individuals with congestive heart failure. 

Classified as an antihypertensive/diuretic, Lozol promotes diuresis to reduce water retention in the body, thereby aiding in blood pressure reduction. 

Uses and Dosage 

Before taking Lozol and with every prescription refill, carefully review its medication guide and patient information leaflet. Consult your doctor or pharmacist for guidance if you have any questions or concerns. 

The appropriate dosage of Lozol is determined based on the patient’s medical condition and response to the treatment. 

Typically, this medication is taken once a day, in the morning, without regard to food intake.  

For optimal results, take Lozol consistently around the same time each day, exactly as directed by your doctor. Avoid altering the dosage by taking more or less than recommended or increasing the frequency of administration. 

Keep taking this medication, even if you feel healthy, as many individuals with high blood pressure may not experience symptoms. Discontinuing Lozol should only be done after consulting a doctor. 

Inform your doctor if your condition does not improve or worsen, as indicated by persistently high or increased blood pressure readings. 

Side Effects 

Listed below are the potential adverse effects of Lozol. Inform your doctor promptly if any of these symptoms persist or worsen. 

Common Side Effects 

• Dizziness 
• Headache 

Serious Side Effects 

• Decrease in vision 
• Eye pain 
• Signs of dehydration or electrolyte imbalance, such as: 
• Extreme thirst 
• Excessively dry mouth 
• Muscle cramps or weakness 
• Rapid or irregular heartbeat 
• Confusion 
• Decreased urination 

Tell your doctor immediately if you experience any of the severe side effects above. 

Allergic Reactions 

Although rare, a severe allergic reaction to Lozol may occur. Promptly seek medical assistance if you observe any of the following symptoms: 

• Rash 
• Itching 
• Difficulty breathing 
• Severe dizziness 
• Swelling, particularly on the face, throat, or tongue

Cautions 

Before starting treatment with Lozol, inform your doctor and pharmacist if you have any known hypersensitivities, especially to indapamide, other medications, or any ingredients present in Lozol tablets. 

To ensure Lozol is safe for you, disclose to your physician your medical background, especially if you have a history of: 

• Diabetes 
• Gout 
• Kidney problems 
• Liver disease 
• Lupus 

Many products may interact with Lozol, including dofetilide and lithium. To minimize the risks of such drug interactions, tell your doctor and pharmacist about all medications you use, including prescription/nonprescription drugs, vitamins, and herbal products. 

Some products may contain ingredients that can increase blood pressure or exacerbate heart failure. Inform your pharmacist if you are using cough and cold medications, diet aids, or NSAIDs like ibuprofen/naproxen, and seek guidance on their safe usage. 

If you are concurrently using cholesterol-lowering medications such as cholestyramine or colestipol (bile acid-binding resins), ensure a minimum interval of 4 hours between taking Lozol and these drugs. 

Lozol can potentially affect specific laboratory tests, including parathyroid function, leading to inaccurate test results. Inform laboratory personnel and your healthcare providers about your use of this medication. 

Lozol can potentially affect blood sugar levels. Consult your doctor for further evaluation if you experience noticeable changes in your blood or urine sugar test results. 

Lozol may induce drowsiness. Refrain from driving or operating machinery until you are aware of the effects this medication has on you. 

Severe sweating, diarrhea, or vomiting can heighten the risk of dehydration. Inform your doctor if you experience prolonged diarrhea or vomiting. Unless instructed otherwise by your doctor, ensure an adequate intake of fluids to prevent dehydration. 

Exposure to sunlight may increase your sensitivity while taking Lozol. Minimize sun exposure, avoid tanning booths and sunlamps, and use sunscreen and protective clothing outdoors. Promptly inform your doctor if you experience sunburn or observe skin blisters or redness. 

The use of Lozol during pregnancy should be limited to necessary situations. Discuss with your doctor the potential risks and benefits of this medication before use. 

The transfer of indapamide into breast milk is uncertain. Before breastfeeding, consult with your healthcare provider for guidance.
