Indications 

Kaopectate Regular Vanilla is an over-the-counter medication that is used to relieve symptoms associated with diarrhea and upset stomach. Some of the common uses for Kaopectate Regular Vanilla include relieving symptoms of traveler’s diarrhea, upset stomach due to overindulgence in food and drink, heartburn, indigestion, nausea, and gas. It is available in liquid form and has a vanilla flavor. 

Kaopectate Regular Vanilla contains bismuth subsalicylate as its active ingredient. Bismuth subsalicylate is an antidiarrheal and anti-inflammatory agent. 

When taken orally, bismuth subsalicylate works to relieve symptoms associated with diarrhea and upset stomach. It has a protective and soothing effect on the lining of the gastrointestinal tract. Bismuth subsalicylate forms a protective coating on the irritated or inflamed areas of the stomach and intestines, helping to reduce inflammation and alleviate symptoms such as diarrhea, nausea, and indigestion. 

Use and Dosage 

Kaopectate Regular Vanilla should be taken as directed on the packaging or as prescribed by a healthcare professional. Shake the bottle well before each use to ensure the ingredients are evenly mixed. Use the pre-measured dose cup that comes with the product to accurately measure the dosage. This will help ensure you take the correct amount.  

For adults and children 12 years and older, the usual recommended dosage is to take 30 ml (2 tablespoons) of the liquid every 1/2 hour to 1 hour as needed. However, follow the specific dosing instructions provided on the packaging or as directed by your healthcare professional. 

Do not exceed 8 doses (240 ml) in a 24-hour period, unless otherwise instructed by a healthcare professional. Note that Kaopectate Regular Vanilla Liquid is intended for short-term use to relieve symptoms of diarrhea and upset stomach. If your symptoms persist or worsen, seek medical advice.

Cautions 

• Reye’s syndrome: Kaopectate Regular Vanilla should not be used in children and teenagers who have or are recovering from Reye’s syndrome. Reye’s syndrome is a rare disease that affects the brain and liver. Follow the age restrictions and consult with a healthcare professional if you have any concerns. 
• Allergic Reaction: Like any medication, you may have an allergic reaction to Kaopectate Regular Vanilla. If you experience symptoms such as rash, itching, swelling, dizziness, or difficulty breathing after taking Kaopectate Regular Vanilla, seek medical attention immediately. 
• Black Discoloration: Temporary dark-colored or black discoloration of stools or tongue can occur with Kaopectate Regular Vanilla. This is generally harmless and should resolve on its own. However, if you have concerns or if the discoloration persists, consult with a healthcare professional. 
• Underlying Medical Conditions: If you have a pre-existing medical condition, such as kidney disease, liver disease, or diabetes,consult with a healthcare professional before using Kaopectate Regular Vanilla. They can provide guidance on whether it is safe for you to use and if any adjustments to the dosage are necessary. 
• Drug Interactions: Kaopectate Regular Vanilla may interact with certain medications, such as blood thinners (e.g., warfarin) or certain antibiotics (e.g., tetracycline). Inform your healthcare professional about all the medications you are taking, including prescription, over-the-counter, and herbal supplements, to avoid potential interactions. 
• Pregnancy and Breastfeeding: If you are pregnant or breastfeeding, consult with a healthcare professional before using Kaopectate Regular Vanilla. They can assess the potential risks and benefits and provide appropriate recommendations. 
• Fluid and Electrolyte Imbalance: Kaopectate Regular Vanilla can help relieve symptoms of diarrhea but monitor your fluid intake and electrolyte balance. If diarrhea persists for more than 48 hours or if you experience signs of dehydration (e.g., excessive thirst, dry mouth, decreased urine output), seek medical advice.
