Description
Indications
Fragmin Ampule is commonly used for conditions such as deep vein thrombosis, pulmonary embolism, and to prevent blood clots in certain medical procedures or surgeries. It is also used to treat conditions associated with clotting disorders, such as unstable angina and non-Q-wave myocardial infarction.
Fragmin Ampule contains the active ingredient dalteparin sodium, which belongs to a class of medications called low molecular weight heparins (LMWHs). LMWHs work by inhibiting certain clotting factors and enzymes in the blood involved in blood clot formation.
When Fragmin Ampule is injected subcutaneously (under the skin), dalteparin sodium is released into the bloodstream. It acts by binding to a protein called antithrombin III, which enhances its ability to inactivate clotting factors such as factor Xa and thrombin. By inhibiting these clotting factors, Fragmin Ampule helps to prevent the formation of blood clots in the veins.
Use and Dosage
Dalteparin Sodium is available in the form of ampules, which are small containers that hold a single dose of the medication. It is usually administered as a subcutaneous injection, which means it is injected into the fatty tissue just under the skin. The specific dosage and administration instructions will be determined by your healthcare professional.
To use Fragmin Ampule, follow the instructions provided by your healthcare professional. Here is a general guide on how to use Fragmin Ampule:
- Prepare the injection site: Choose an injection site, usually the fatty tissue of the abdomen or the upper thigh. Clean the area with an alcohol swab and allow it to dry.
- Inspect the ampule: Check the ampule for any signs of damage or particles. Do not use the ampule if it appears damaged or the solution is discolored.
- Draw up the medication: Remove the cap from the ampule and attach a sterile syringe to the ampule. Slowly withdraw the prescribed dose of Fragmin solution into the syringe.
- Remove air bubbles: Gently tap the syringe to remove any air bubbles that may have formed. Push the plunger slightly to expel the air bubbles if necessary. Ensure that the correct dose of medication remains in the syringe.
- Administer the injection: Pinch a fold of skin at the injection site and insert the needle into the skin at a 90-degree angle. Slowly inject the medication into the subcutaneous tissue.
- Remove the needle: Withdraw the needle from the skin and apply gentle pressure to the injection site with a sterile cotton ball or swab.
- Dispose of the materials: Safely dispose of the used syringe, needle, and ampule in a sharps container as per your local waste disposal regulations.
Note that the above steps are a general guideline, and you should always consult with your healthcare professional for specific instructions tailored to your condition and the prescribed dose of Fragmin Ampule.
