Indications 

Fluticasone is utilized to manage and prevent asthma symptoms, including wheezing and shortness of breath. Its mechanism of action involves mitigating the inflammation in the lung airways, thereby facilitating improved breathing. Effective control of asthma symptoms enables individuals to maintain their daily routines and minimize productivity loss due to absenteeism from work or school. Fluticasone belongs to the class of corticosteroid medications. adhere to a regular usage schedule for optimal effectiveness, as the medicine does not exhibit immediate relief and should not be relied upon for treating acute asthma attacks. 

Uses and Dosage 

Flovent HFA is indicated for maintaining asthma as a prophylactic therapy in adult and pediatric patients aged 4 years and older. 

To ensure proper usage, follow the instructions for priming the inhaler in the following scenarios: when using it for the first time, if it has not been used for more than one week, or if the inhaler has been dropped. During priming, direct the spray away from the face to avoid accidental contact with the eyes. 

Before each use, shake the inhaler vigorously for 5 seconds. Inhale the medication orally as directed by your doctor, typically twice daily (in the morning and evening). The prescribed dosage will be based on your medical condition and individual response to treatment. 

If you encounter any difficulties using this inhaler, consult your doctor or pharmacist. For young children, improved results may be achieved by employing a spacer device and face mask in conjunction with the medication. 

When two inhalations or puffs are prescribed, a waiting period of approximately 30 seconds should be observed between them. shake the inhaler well between each breath. If you are simultaneously using other inhalers, allow at least 1 minute between administering each medication, ensuring that this corticosteroid is the final one used. 

To prevent the development of dry mouth, hoarseness, and oral yeast infections, gargle and rinse your mouth with water after each use. Please be advised not to swallow the rinse water. 

Side Effects 

Occasionally, hoarseness or throat irritation may occur as potential side effects. If these effects persist or worsen, inform your doctor or pharmacist. 

Remember that this medication has been prescribed to you based on your doctor’s assessment that the benefits outweigh the potential risks of side effects. note that many individuals who use this medication do not experience severe side effects. 

However, notify your doctor immediately if you experience any severe side effects, including:  

• Presence of white patches in your mouth or on your tongue 
• Signs of infection such as a persistent sore throat, fever, chills, or cough 
• Vision problems 
• Increased thirst or urination 
• Easy bruising or bleeding 
• Mental or mood changes, such as:  
  • Depression 
  • Mood swings 
  • Agitation 
• Bone pain

Before initiating the use of fluticasone, inform your doctor or pharmacist about any known allergies you may have, including allergies to fluticasone itself or any other substances. This product may contain inactive ingredients that have the potential to elicit allergic reactions or other complications. For further information, consult your pharmacist. 

Before using this medication, disclose your medical history to your doctor or pharmacist, particularly about:  

• Current or past infections such as tuberculosis or herpes 
• Certain eye conditions such as:  
  • Cataracts 
  • Glaucoma 
  • Herpes infection of the eye 
• Instances of bone loss or osteoporosis 
• Any history of liver disease
