Description
IndicationsÂ
Diane-35 (Cyproterone acetate + Ethinylestradiol) is recommended for treating moderate to severe acne in women of reproductive age who have androgen sensitivity, with or without seborrhoea or hirsutism. It should be considered when topical treatments or systemic antibiotics have been ineffective in managing acne symptoms. Diane-35 is both a hormonal contraceptive and an acne treatment. Therefore it should not be used concurrently with other hormonal contraceptives as indicated in the contraindications.Â
Uses and DosageÂ
The recommended dosing regimen for this medication is a 28-day cycle, consisting of one tablet taken daily for 21 consecutive days, followed by a 7-day interval without prescription. Take the tablet at the same time each day. Treatment is typically initiated on the first day of menstrual bleeding.Â
Common for several months of continuous treatment to be necessary before noticeable improvement in acne symptoms is observed. Once the acne has completely cleared, the medication is often continued for 3 or 4 cycles and then discontinued. However, if the acne returns, the medicine may be restarted.Â
If you experience spotting or breakthrough bleeding during the three weeks of active medication intake, this drug is generally advised to continue taking the medication. This type of bleeding is usually temporary. However, if the bleeding persists or lasts extended, you must contact your doctor.Â
If your menstrual period does not occur during the 7-day tablet-free interval, you should not start the next medication cycle and consult your doctor.Â
