Indications 

This medication contains estrogen, which is a female hormone. This drug is prescribed to women to alleviate menopausal symptoms like hot flashes and vaginal dryness. These symptoms occur due to decreased estrogen production in the body. When using this medication specifically for symptoms localized to the vagina, you should consider using products that are applied directly inside the vagina before considering oral, transdermal, or injectable medications. This medication can be used by women who have insufficient estrogen production (e.g., due to hypogonadism or primary ovarian failure) and by men for the treatment of prostate cancer. 

Uses and Dosage 

This medication is administered by injection into a muscle as prescribed by your doctor, typically every 4 weeks. In the case of prostate cancer treatment, the frequency may be increased to once every 1 to 2 weeks. The specific dosage will be determined based on your medical condition and how you respond to the treatment. 

If you are self-administering this medication at home, please carefully follow the preparation and usage instructions provided by your healthcare professional. Before using the medication, visually inspect the product for any particles or discoloration. If you notice either of these, do not use the liquid. In certain cases, crystals may form in the liquid when stored at low temperatures. To dissolve these crystals, simply allow the product to reach room temperature before use. Be sure to learn and follow proper guidelines for storing and disposing of medical supplies to ensure safety. 

To derive the maximum benefit from this medication, use it regularly. You can mark your calendar with reminders of when to receive your doses to help you remember the schedule. 

Side Effects 

Common Side Effects

Common side effects may include: 

• Nausea/vomiting 
• Bloating 
• Breast tenderness 
• Headache 
• Weight changes 

If any of these effects persist or worsen, inform your doctor or pharmacist promptly. 

Severe Side Effects

This medication has been prescribed because the benefit outweighs the risk of side effects. Serious side effects are uncommon. 

Contact your doctor immediately if you experience any of the following serious side effects: 

• Nausea/vomiting that doesn’t stop 
• Mental/mood changes (such as depression, memory loss) 
• Breast lumps 
• Unusual vaginal bleeding (such as spotting, breakthrough bleeding, prolonged/recurrent bleeding) 
• Increased or new vaginal irritation/itching/odor/discharge 
• Severe stomach/abdominal pain 
• Yellowing of the eyes/skin 
• Dark urine 
• Swelling of hands/ankles/feet 
• Increased thirst/urination 

Rarely, this medication may cause serious problems related to blood clots, including: 

• Chest/jaw/left arm pain 
• Unusual sweating 
• Sudden/severe headache 
• Weakness on one side of the body 
• Confusion 
• Trouble speaking 
• Sudden vision changes (such as partial/complete blindness) 
• Pain/redness/swelling of legs 
• Tingling/weakness/numbness in the arms/legs 
• Trouble breathing 
• Coughing up blood 
• Sudden dizziness/fainting 

Seek medical help immediately if you experience any of these serious side effects. 

Cautions 

The use of Delestrogen during pregnancy is contraindicated due to the risk of birth defects. If you become pregnant while undergoing treatment with this medication, inform your doctor. Effective birth control should be used during treatment to prevent pregnancy. Delestrogen can pass into breast milk, potentially causing harm to a nursing baby. It may reduce breast milk production. Therefore, breastfeeding while using this medication is not recommended.
