Indications 

Creon 25 is a prescribed medication for individuals with impaired food digestion resulting from insufficient pancreatic enzyme production, stemming from conditions such as cystic fibrosis, chronic pancreatitis, pancreatectomy, or other related disorders. 

As a pancreatic enzyme replacement therapy (PERT), Creon 25 substitutes the three essential pancreatic enzymes (lipase, protease, and amylase) produced by a healthy pancreas. It works by diminishing excessive fat in bowel movements and improves nutrient absorption by breaking down dietary fats, proteins, and starches into more easily absorbable forms in the intestines. 

Uses and Dosage

Typically, Creon 25 is taken with each meal and snack. Your doctor will specify the daily dosage limit, which you should not exceed, even if your meal and snack intake exceeds your usual routine. Consult your doctor if your eating habits change. 

The capsules must be swallowed whole with an adequate amount of water to ensure complete ingestion. Do not crush or chew the capsule and refrain from sucking or holding it in your mouth to prevent irritation to the inner lining of your mouth. 

If you have trouble swallowing the capsule, you may open it and mix the contents with a small quantity of liquid or soft food (e.g., room-temperature applesauce). Ingest the mixture without chewing, followed by water or juice. Do not save the mixture for future use. 

Do not combine the contents of the capsule with alkaline foods or liquids. Seek advice from your doctor or pharmacist regarding specific foods and liquids to avoid when mixing.  

Moreover, avoid inhaling the powder from the capsule or allowing direct skin contact, as it may cause irritation, especially in the nasal and respiratory areas. 

To ensure optimal results, strictly follow the prescribed dosage and usage instructions for Creon 25. Consult your doctor before discontinuing this medication, even if you feel well. 

If you miss a dose of Creon 25, either consult your doctor or wait until your next meal to take the usual number of capsules. Maintain your regular dosing schedule and avoid attempting to make up for any missed doses. 

Side Effects 

The potential adverse effects of Creon 25 are outlined below. Notify your doctor promptly if any of these symptoms continue or worsen.

• Abdominal pain, cramps, or bloating 
• Gas 
• Cough

Serious Side Effects 

• Severe constipation 
• Intense stomach or abdominal discomfort 
• Frequent or painful urination 
• Joint pain 

Inform your doctor right away if you exhibit any of the serious effects listed above. 

Allergic Reactions 

In rare cases, Creon 25 may trigger a severe allergic response. Prompt medical assistance should be sought if any symptoms of an allergic reaction are noticed, including: 

• Hives 
• Face, tongue, or throat swelling or itching 
• Difficulty breathing 
• Rash 
• Severe dizziness

Cautions 

Before starting treatment with Creon 25, inform your doctor if you have any known allergies, particularly to pork protein or any ingredients found in Creon capsules.

• Acute pancreatitis (sudden and severe pancreatic inflammation) 
• Gout 
• Hyperuricemia (elevated blood uric acid levels) 
• Intestinal problems like blockage 
• Kidney disease 
• Rapid deterioration of chronic pancreatic disease 

Acarbose and miglitol may have interactions with Creon 25. To minimize these interactions, notify your doctor of all your current or planned medications, including prescriptions, over-the-counter drugs, dietary supplements, and herbal products. 

Before initiating treatment with Creon 25 during pregnancy, seek a comprehensive evaluation from your doctor regarding the potential risks and benefits associated with its use. 

Consult your doctor if you are currently nursing or intend to nurse, as the potential transfer of Creon 25 into breast milk remains uncertain.
