Indications  

Combantrin is a medication utilized for the treatment of intestinal worm infections, including pinworm, roundworm, and hookworm. 

As an anthelmintic drug, Combantrin functions by inducing paralysis in worms, rendering them immobile. This immobilization enables the body to eliminate them naturally through bowel movements. 

Uses and Dosage 

Before taking Combantrin, thoroughly review its medication guide and patient information leaflet. Do not hesitate to ask your doctor or pharmacist if you have any questions or concerns. 

The dosage of Combantrin may vary per individual based on their weight, type of infection, and response to the treatment. 

Typically, this medication is taken as a single dose not exceeding 1 gram, with or without food, as directed by the doctor. It is also possible to take it with milk or fruit juice. 

For self-treatment of pinworms, take Combantrin once and consult your doctor before repeating the dose. Your doctor may advise a single or multiple-day course based on the type of worm infection. In some cases, a repeat dose may be necessary after two weeks. 

Take Combantrin exactly as directed. Avoid taking more or less of it or taking it more frequently than prescribed by your doctor. 

Seek medical attention immediately if you continue to see worms in your stool, experience worsening symptoms, suspect a different worm infection, or suspect a serious medical condition. 

Side Effects 

Listed below are the potential adverse effects that may arise from taking Combantrin. If any of them last or worsen, inform your doctor promptly. 

Common Side Effects 

• Stomach pain 
• Nausea 
• Vomiting 
• Diarrhea 
• Headache 

Serious Side Effects 

• Severe stomach pain, nausea, vomiting, or diarrhea 
• Severe dizziness 
• Ongoing headache 

Stop taking Combantrin and call your doctor immediately if you experience any of the severe side effects listed above. 

Allergic Reactions 

Severe allergic reactions to Combantrin are uncommon; however, seek immediate medical attention if you experience symptoms such as: 

• Hives 
• Difficulty breathing 
• Swelling of the face, lips, tongue, or throat

Cautions 

Before starting treatment with Combantrin, inform your doctor and pharmacist if you have any known hypersensitivities, especially to pyrantel, any other medications, or any of the ingredients present in Combantrin tablets. 

To ensure Combantrin is safe for you, disclose to your physician your medical background, specifically if you have a history of: 

• Liver disease 
• Severe malnutrition  
• Anemia 

Notify your physician of all current and newly initiated or discontinued medications, including prescription and non-prescription drugs, vitamins, and herbal supplements, as they may interact with Combantrin. 

If you reside with others, it may be necessary for all household members to undergo Combantrin treatment as Pinworm infections can easily spread to individuals in close proximity. Always adhere to the instructions on the medicine label when administering it to a child. 

Exercise caution with activities such as driving or engaging in hazardous tasks until you are aware of the effects of Combantrin on your body. Impairments in your reactions may occur. 

During pregnancy, the use of Combantrin should be limited to situations where it is clearly necessary. Discuss with your doctor the risks and benefits associated with its use. 

The transfer of pyrantel into breast milk is uncertain. Prior to breastfeeding, consult with your doctor.
