Indications 

Canesten Combi-Pack is an antifungal medication containing two products for the treatment of vaginal yeast infections. 

This Combi-Pack includes an oral capsule containing fluconazole, which works by inhibiting the growth of fungi causing vaginal yeast infections, and an external cream with clotrimazole, which works by alleviating external irritation linked to yeast infections. 

Uses and Dosage 

Seek medical advice before using Canesten Combi-Pack if you are experiencing your initial yeast infection or if you have had another yeast infection within 2 months of treating a previous one. 

Carefully read the accompanying medication guide and patient information leaflet before using this product and every time you get a refill. For questions or concerns, do not hesitate to consult your doctor or pharmacist. 

Typically, the capsule in this combination pack is taken as a single dose, with or without food, or as prescribed by a doctor. 

Do not exceed a single dose for this infection. If your symptoms persist beyond 3 days or do not resolve within 7 days, consult your healthcare provider. 

On the other hand, the cream in this combination pack is usually applied once or twice per day, exclusively during the period when external symptoms occur.  

This cream should be applied at the vaginal opening for a maximum of 7 days to provide additional relief from external symptoms, while simultaneous treatment of the infection is carried out through oral medication. 

To apply the cream: 

1. Begin by thoroughly washing your hands. 
2. Dispense a small quantity of cream onto your fingertip. 
3. Apply the cream thinly and evenly to the area around the vaginal entrance, gently smoothing it in. 
4. After application, ensure to wash your hands thoroughly.

Side Effects 

Listed below are the potential adverse effects of Canesten Combi-Pack. Inform your doctor right away if any of these symptoms continue or worsen. 

Common Side Effects 

• Headache 
• Nausea 
• Abdominal pain 
• Diarrhea 

Serious Side Effects 

• Skin eruptions 
• New rashes or irritations 

Stop Canesten Combi-Pack use and call your doctor promptly if any of the above effects are experienced. 

Allergic Reactions 

In rare cases, Canesten Combi-Pack may trigger a serious allergic response. Immediate medical aid must be sought if you observe any indications of an allergic reaction, such as: 

• Rash 
• Swelling of the face, eyes, mouth, hands, and feet

Cautions

Before taking the capsule in this combination pack, seek advice from your doctor or pharmacist regarding any concurrent drug therapy, especially medications prescribed for: 

• AIDS/HIV (zidovudine) 
• Allergies (astemizole, terfenadine) 
• Asthma (theophylline) 
• Antibiotics (rifabutin, rifampicin) 
• Blood Thinners (warfarin or similar drugs) 
• Diabetes (glyburide, glipizide, tolbutamide) 
• Diuretics (hydrochlorothiazide) 
• Epilepsy (phenytoin) 
• Immune System suppression (cyclosporine, tacrolimus, sirolimus) 
• Stomach (cimetidine, cisapride) 
• Sedation (midazolam, triazolam) 
• Steroids used to treat skin, stomach, blood, or breathing disorders (prednisone) 

Canesten Combi-Pack poses a risk of spontaneous abortion or congenital disabilities. If you are of childbearing age and using this medication, ensure effective contraception for approximately one week following the dose. In case of pregnancy while using this medication, seek advice from your healthcare provider. 

Canesten Cream diminishes the reliability of latex condoms and diaphragms. Do not use them during Canesten treatment and for three days afterward, as they may become compromised and fail to provide protection against pregnancy and sexually transmitted diseases. 

Fluconazole is present in human breast milk at levels similar to those in the bloodstream, while clotrimazole and its metabolites have been found in breast milk. Therefore, breastfeeding should be halted during Canesten Combi-Pack treatment, and its use in nursing mothers is discouraged.
