Description
Indications
Buspirone, sold under the brand name Buspar, is an oral medication indicated for the management of symptoms associated with anxiety and its disorders, including Generalized Anxiety Disorder (GAD).
This is classified as an anxiolytic and anti-anxiety medication, though it does not exhibit any chemical affinity to benzodiazepines, sedatives, or other anxiolytics.
Buspar is formulated in tablet form and believed to enhance serotonin activity in various regions of the brain through its agonistic activity on serotonin 5-HT1A receptors.
The onset of clinical effects of Buspar may take two to four weeks to materialize. As a result, This medication is recommended to administer for a minimum period of one month to assess its efficacy.
Uses and Dosage
Administer Buspar in accordance with the prescription given by your healthcare provider. Ensure to strictly follow all directions on the prescription label, and be aware that your physician may adjust your dose periodically to optimize therapeutic outcomes.
Do not deviate from the prescribed dose, either by taking larger or smaller amounts or by prolonging the treatment duration beyond the recommended period.
When taking Buspar, adhere to a consistent administration pattern, whether with or without food. For certain Buspar tablet formulations, the tablet may be divided into two or three pieces for more precise dosing.
Divide the tablet as instructed by the physician and to avoid using a piece that is either too small or too large. In cases where you are transitioning from another anxiety medication to Buspar, gradually decrease the dose of the prior medication, rather than abruptly discontinuing it, as some anxiety medications may cause withdrawal symptoms when stopped suddenly after long-term use.
Buspar may interfere with certain medical tests and result in false positive results. Before undergoing any medical tests, inform the treating physician that you are using Buspar and ensure to discontinue its use for a minimum of 48 hours prior to the test.
Store Buspar at room temperature, protected from exposure to moisture, heat, and light.
