Description
IndicationsÂ
Beconase AQ Nasal is a prescription medication used to prevent and treat seasonal and year-round allergy symptoms. It is used for relieving symptoms such as a stuffy or runny nose, itchy eyes/nose/throat, and sneezing associated with allergies. Â
Beconase AQ Nasal contains the active ingredient beclomethasone dipropionate, which is a corticosteroid. It works by reducing inflammation and swelling in the nasal passages. Â
When you use Beconase AQ Nasal, you spray the medication into your nostrils. The medication is then absorbed into the tissues of the nasal passages and works locally to reduce inflammation. It helps relieve symptoms such as nasal congestion, sneezing, itching, and runny nose associated with allergies or other nasal conditions.Â
Use and DosageÂ
Use Beconase Aq Nasal spray in the nose as directed by your doctor, usually 1 or 2 sprays in each nostril twice a day. Avoid spraying it in your eyes. Gently blow your nose before using the spray. The Dosage is based on your medical condition and response to treatment. Younger children may need a smaller dose and help from an adult to use it properly. Â
To use the spray, first remove the safety clip and plastic cap. Close one nostril by pressing it with your finger. Tilt your head slightly forward and, keeping the bottle upright, carefully insert the nasal applicator into the other nostril. Press down firmly on the pump to deliver the prescribed number of sprays. Do not spray directly onto the middle wall of your nose (nasal septum). Breathe in gently through your nose and out through your mouth. Repeat in the other nostril. Wipe the applicator tip and replace the plastic cap and safety clip. Avoid blowing your nose for 15 minutes after using the spray.Â
Use Beconase Aq Nasal spray regularly to get the most benefit from it. To help you remember, use it at the same times each day. Do not increase your dose or use it more often than directed.Â

CautionsÂ
- Allergic Reactions: Be aware of possible allergic reactions to Beclomethasone Dipropionate. If you experience signs of an allergic reaction such as rash, itching, swelling, severe dizziness, or difficulty breathing, seek immediate medical attention.Â
- Drug Interactions: Beclomethasone may interact with other medications. Inform your healthcare provider about all the medications you are taking, including prescription, over-the-counter, and herbal products, to avoid potential interactions.Â
- Exposure to Chickenpox or Measles: If you are exposed to chickenpox or measles, consider immune globulin or antiviral prophylactic therapies.Â
- Glaucoma and Cataracts: Long-term use of corticosteroids like Beclomethasone Dipropionate may increase the risk of developing glaucoma or cataracts. Regular eye exams are recommended, especially if you have a history of eye conditions or are using high doses for prolonged periods.Â
- Immunosuppression: Corticosteroids can suppress the immune system, potentially increasing the risk of infections. Avoid exposure to individuals with contagious diseases such as chickenpox or measles.Â
- Monitoring for Side Effects: Monitor for signs of hypercorticism (excessive cortisol levels) and HPA axis suppression (suppression of the hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal axis). If these side effects occur, discontinue Beconase AQ Nasal gradually. Additionally, monitor for growth suppression in children and any visual changes.Â
- Nasal Conditions: Avoid using Beclomethasone if you have recent nasal septal ulcers, nasal surgery, or nasal trauma until they have healed.Â
- Nasopharyngeal Irritation and Infections: Discontinue use of Beclomethasone Dipropionate if you experience persistent nasopharyngeal irritation or Candida (fungal) infection. If an infection occurs, it may be necessary to treat it with local therapy.Â
- Pediatric Use: Beconase AQ Nasal can be used in children but follow the recommended dosage and consult with a healthcare professional for appropriate use in pediatric patients.Â
- Pregnancy and Nursing: Consult with a healthcare professional before using Beclomethasone Dipropionate if you are pregnant or nursing.Â
- Respiratory Tract Tuberculosis: Be cautious when using Beclomethasone if you have respiratory tract tuberculosis.Â
- Systemic Corticosteroid Effects: Beclomethasone is a topical nasal spray, but it may still have systemic effects, especially if used in high doses or for extended periods. These effects can include adrenal suppression, weight gain, fluid retention, mood changes, and changes in blood sugar levels. Â
- Untreated Infections: Do not use Beclomethasone if you have untreated infections, such as fungal, bacterial, viral, or ocular herpes simplex.Â
