Description
IndicationsÂ
Astelin Nasal Spray is a prescription medication indicated for the management of seasonal allergic rhinitis symptoms, including rhinorrhea, sneezing, and nasal pruritus, in adults and children aged 5 and above.Â
Astelin Nasal Spray is also prescribed to manage vasomotor rhinitis symptoms, such as rhinorrhea, nasal congestion, and postnasal drip, in adults and children aged 12 years and above.Â
Belonging to the class of drugs called antihistamines, Astelin Nasal Spray exerts its pharmacological effect through the inhibition of histamine activity, a bodily substance responsible for inducing allergic symptoms.Â
Uses and DosageÂ
Before using Astelin Nasal Spray and every time you get a refill, carefully read its medication guide and patient information leaflet. In case of any inquiries or apprehensions, do not hesitate to seek counsel from your physician or pharmacist.Â
Astelin Nasal Spray is intended solely for intranasal administration. Refrain from swallowing the nasal spray, and exercise caution to prevent accidental spraying into the eyes or mouth.Â
Astelin Nasal Spray is usually sprayed in each nostril once or twice daily as prescribed by the doctor. To ensure proper usage of this nasal spray, follow these steps:Â
- Take off the nasal spray pump cap and safety clip.Â
- If using the nasal spray for the first time, priming the pump is necessary. Hold the bottle in an upright position, ensuring it is pointed away from your face. Depress and release the pump four times or until you see a fine mist. Reprime the pump with two sprays if the nasal spray has not been used for over three days.Â
- Clear your nostrils by blowing your nose.Â
- Administer the spray by closing one nostril with gentle finger pressure, tilting the head slightly forward, and inserting the nasal tip into the other nostril. Use the forefinger and middle finger to press down firmly on the nozzle, releasing a spray. Inhale gently through the nostril while keeping the head tilted forward to prevent the medication from entering the throat. Repeat this process in the other nostril.Â
- If instructed by your doctor to use two sprays in each nostril, repeat step 4.Â
- Clean the applicator with a tissue and securely replace the plastic cap and safety clip onto the bottle.Â
For optimal results, use Astelin Nasal Spray regularly around the same time(s) each day. Avoid exceeding the prescribed dosage or frequency of use, as this will not accelerate your recovery and may elevate your susceptibility to adverse effects.Â
Astelin Nasal Spray is intended for a specific number of sprays. Once you have used the indicated number of sprays, the remaining ones may not have the right amount of medication. Keep count of the number of sprays used and discard the bottle after using the marked number of sprays, even if there is still some liquid left.Â

Before using Astelin Nasal Spray, disclose your medical history to your doctor, emphasizing any prior incidents of renal impairment.Â
