Description
Indications
Apoquel is a pharmaceutical preparation intended for the treatment of allergy-related symptoms such as itching and inflammation in dogs.
It works by selectively inhibiting a crucial itch signal within a dog’s body, thereby preventing the onset of pruritus. Apoquel exhibits a rapid onset of action, with notable improvements in itching within 24 hours of administration.
Veterinarians may recommend short-term usage of Apoquel® for the management of allergic flare-ups or long-term administration for the management of skin allergies.
Uses and Dosage
In administering Apoquel, adhere to the guidelines on the label as well as those provided by your veterinarian. The tablets are intended for oral administration, and can be given with or without food.
If your dog experiences vomiting after taking the medication, kindly consult with your veterinarian before administering it with a meal or food.
Apoquel is specifically authorized for use in canines of 12 months and above, and must not be used in pregnant, nursing, or breeding dogs. In addition, notify your veterinarian of any serious infections in your dog, as this medication is contraindicated in such cases.
Inform your veterinarian of all medications and supplements currently being taken by your dog, and avoid administering additional medications without prior consultation. Notably, the compatibility of Apoquel with certain common allergy medications such as steroids and cyclosporine (Atopica) is currently unknown.

Caution
APOQUEL is contraindicated for use in canines that are less than 12 months of age. APOQUEL exerts its therapeutic effect by modulating the immune system. APOQUEL should not be used in dogs with serious infections, and may increase the susceptibility to infection, including demodicosis, and exacerbation of neoplastic conditions
Dogs treated with APOQUEL during clinical studies exhibited new neoplastic conditions (both benign and malignant), which have been reported in the post-approval period.
Before administering APOQUEL, weigh the risks and benefits of treatment in canines with a history of recurrent serious infections, recurrent demodicosis, or neoplasia.
To prevent accidental ingestion or overdose, store APOQUEL securely in a location that is inaccessible to dogs, cats, and other animals.
