Indications
Actos is indicated for the maintenance of glycemic control in patients with type II diabetes mellitus.
Lifestyle modifications, such as adherence to a proper diet and exercise regimen, are fundamental for controlling, managing, and preventing diabetes.
Actos may be used adjunctively with healthy lifestyle habits to enhance glycemic control and prevent the development of severe complications associated with type II diabetes.
Uses and Dosage
Before using pioglitazone, read the Medication Guide carefully that has been provided by your pharmacist. If you have any questions, feel free to consult your doctor or pharmacist. Take this medication orally once a day with or without food, according to your doctor’s instructions.
The dosage of this drug is dependent on your medical condition, response to treatment, and whether you are taking any other diabetes medications. Your doctor will adjust your dose based on your blood sugar levels to determine the optimal dose. Follow your doctor’s instructions closely. To derive the maximum benefit from this medication, take it regularly at the same time each day.
If you are already taking another diabetes medication such as metformin or a sulfonylurea, follow your doctor’s instructions closely when discontinuing the previous medication and starting this medication. Adhere to the medication treatment plan, meal plan, and exercise program recommended by your doctor.
Monitor your blood sugar levels regularly as directed by your doctor, and keep a record of the readings to share with your doctor. Caution
Actos is indicated for the treatment of diabetes type II only. Not effective in treating type I diabetes as it improves insulin behavior in the body, rather than increasing insulin production.
Managing diabetes type II requires healthy eating habits and regular exercise, and medication is used to complement the benefits of these habits.
Inform your doctor of any medical conditions, allergies to drugs, or history of heart disease, heart failure, liver disease, liver failure, and bladder cancer. If any of these apply to you, Actos may not be safe for use, and your doctor will suggest alternative options.
Pregnant, nursing, or soon-to-be pregnant women should consult their doctor before using Actos as it may cause harm to the child. Alternative medication options can be discussed with the doctor.
