Drug Description

Indications

This medication is indicated for treating ocular hypertension or open-angle glaucoma, which are conditions characterized by elevated intraocular pressure that can lead to visual impairment. Its mechanism of action involves reducing the production of aqueous humor, thereby lowering intraocular pressure. Timolol is classified as a beta-blocker, which exerts its therapeutic effect by blocking beta-adrenergic receptors in the eye.

Uses and Dosage

This medication is administered to manage ocular hypertension or open-angle glaucoma, conditions marked by increased intraocular pressure, which can result in vision loss. Proper administration of eye drops is crucial to prevent contamination and ensure maximal therapeutic efficacy.

Prior to application, wash your hands thoroughly to minimize the risk of infection. Avoid contact between the dropper tip and your eye or any other surface to prevent contamination.

If you wear contact lenses, remove them before instilling the eye drops. Allow a minimum of 15 minutes before reinserting your lenses.

Tilt your head backward, gaze upward, and pull the lower eyelid down to form a pouch. Directly position the dropper above your eye, and administer a single drop into the pouch, as prescribed by your physician, either once daily in the morning or twice daily. Look downward, shut your eyes gently, and place a finger on the corner of your eye near your nose, exerting gentle pressure for 1 to 2 minutes to prevent the medication from escaping. Avoid blinking or rubbing your eye during this time. Repeat these steps for the other eye if directed to use this medication in both eyes. Allow several minutes for your vision to clear before operating machinery or driving.

Side Effects

  • Headache

Should any of these effects persist or worsen, promptly inform your physician or pharmacist.

This medication is prescribed based on your doctor’s assessment that the potential benefit outweighs the risk of side effects. The majority of individuals utilizing this medication do not experience severe adverse reactions.

Immediately notify your physician if you encounter any severe side effects, such as dizziness, eye pain/swelling/discharge, irregular or slow heartbeat, muscle weakness, alterations in mood or mental state, coldness/numbness/pain in the hands or feet, vision alterations, or unusual fatigue/weakness.
