Indications 

Sennosides are used for the management of constipation and are utilized as a bowel evacuant prior to bowel inspection or surgery.  

Classified as stimulant laxatives, sennosides operate by promoting intestinal motility via the retention of water in the intestines. 

Uses and Dosage 

Please take this medication orally, in accordance with your doctor’s instructions. If you are self-medicating, please adhere to all the guidelines provided on the product package. Kindly direct any queries to your physician or pharmacist. 

The recommended dosage is determined by your age, medical history, and response to treatment. Avoid increasing your dose or taking this medication more frequently than recommended. Refrain from consuming this medication for more than seven days, unless otherwise instructed by your physician, as excessive usage can result in severe side effects. 

It may take between six to twelve hours for this medication to elicit a bowel movement. If your symptoms persist or deteriorate, or if rectal bleeding occurs, kindly inform your doctor. If you believe you have a serious medical concern, please seek immediate medical assistance. 

Side Effects 

Common Side Effects

• Stomach/abdominal pain
• Cramping, nausea, diarrhea, or weakness  

If these effects persist or worsen, kindly inform your physician or pharmacist promptly. 

• Reddish-brown urine, which is harmless and will subside when the medication is discontinued 

Severe Side Effects

If your doctor has prescribed this medication for you, they believe that the benefits outweigh the risks of side effects. Many individuals who take this medication do not experience severe side effects. 

Inform your doctor immediately if you experience any serious side effects, such as:  

• Nausea/vomiting/diarrhea that doesn’t stop
• Muscle cramps/weakness
• Irregular heartbeat
• Dizziness
• Decreased urination
• Mental/mood changes (such as confusion) 

Allergic Reactions

A severe allergic reaction to this medication is rare. However, please seek medical attention immediately if you notice symptoms of a serious allergic reaction, including:  

• Rash
• Itching/swelling (especially of the face/tongue/throat)
• Severe dizziness
• Difficulty breathing 

Caution 

Prior to taking this medication, please inform your physician or pharmacist if you have an allergy to it, to senna, or any other allergies. This medication may contain inactive ingredients that may trigger allergic reactions or other issues. Kindly consult your pharmacist for more information. 

Before using this medication, please inform your physician or pharmacist of your medical history, particularly if you have had appendicitis or symptoms of appendicitis (such as nausea/vomiting, sudden or unexplained stomach/abdominal pain), experienced a sudden change in bowel habits that lasts for longer than 2 weeks, or have had bleeding from the rectum or intestinal blockage. 

Before undergoing any surgery, please inform your physician or dentist of all the products you use, including prescription medications, non-prescription medications, and herbal products. 

Chewable tablets or dissolving strips may contain sugar. Individuals with diabetes or any other condition that requires the limitation or avoidance of sugar in their diet should exercise caution when using this product. Please ask your doctor or pharmacist about using this product safely. 

Inform your doctor if you are pregnant before using this medication. Do not use this medication for extended periods during pregnancy. Please consult your doctor for more information.
