Description
Indications
Revatio, which is the generic name for sildenafil, is an orally-administered medication that is specifically indicated for the treatment of pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH), commonly referred to as high blood pressure in the lungs.
By enhancing the ability of adults to engage in physical exercise, Revatio helps to impede the clinical deterioration associated with PAH.
As a phosphodiesterase-5 (PDE-5) inhibitor, this medication exerts its therapeutic effects on the smooth muscle of the pulmonary vasculature, resulting in relaxation of the vascular smooth muscle cells within the lungs and consequent vasodilation effects within the systemic circulation.
Uses and Dosage
Prior to commencing use of sildenafil, kindly peruse the Patient Information Leaflet furnished by your pharmacist, both at the outset of treatment and with each subsequent refill.
