Description
Indications Â
Rapaflo is a prescribed medication used to treat the signs and symptoms of benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH). These symptoms encompass difficulties in urination (hesitation, dribbling, weak stream, and incomplete bladder emptying), painful urination, and increased urinary frequency and urgency.Â
As an alpha blocker, Rapaflo functions by relaxing the smooth muscles in the prostate, bladder base, and neck, thereby reducing pressure on the urethra and alleviating symptoms associated with BPH.Â
Uses and DosageÂ
Before taking Rapaflo and with each prescription refill, carefully review its medication guide and patient information leaflet. Seek the guidance of your healthcare provider or pharmacist for any questions or concerns.Â
The dosage of Rapaflo is determined based on individual medical conditions and response to the treatment.Â
Typically, this medication is taken once a day with a meal as prescribed by the doctor.Â
If the medication is difficult to swallow, the entire capsule contents can be sprinkled onto a small amount (e.g., a tablespoon) of cool, soft applesauce just before taking it. Consume the mixture immediately (within 5 minutes) without chewing and avoid saving it for later use. Ensure you do not use hot applesauce and remember to drink a glass of cool water after each dose.Â
For optimal results, take Rapaflo exactly as directed around the same times each day.Â
Refrain from altering the prescribed dosage, frequency, and duration of intake without your doctor’s approval.Â
Inform your doctor if your condition does not show improvement or deteriorates.Â

CautionsÂ
Before starting treatment with Rapaflo, inform your doctor if you have any known allergies, particularly to silodosin and other medications.Â
Consult your pharmacist for additional information about Rapaflo, as it may contain inactive ingredients that could potentially cause allergic reactions or other complications.Â
To ensure Rapaflo is safe for you, disclose to your physician your medical background, especially if you have a history of:Â
- Specific eye problems (cataracts, glaucoma)Â
- Kidney diseaseÂ
- Liver diseaseÂ
- Low blood pressureÂ
Some products may interact with Rapaflo, including other alpha-blocker drugs (e.g., prazosin, terazosin). To prevent such drug interaction, inform all your healthcare providers of any current, newly started, or stopped medications, including prescription/nonprescription drugs, vitamins, and herbal supplements.Â
Certain medications can impact the elimination of Rapaflo from the body, potentially altering its effectiveness. Examples of such medications include:Â
- Azole antifungals (e.g., itraconazole, ketoconazole)Â
- ClarithromycinÂ
- CobicistatÂ
- CyclosporineÂ
- HIV protease inhibitors (e.g., lopinavir)Â
- MifepristoneÂ
- RibociclibÂ
- RitonavirÂ
If you are concurrently taking medication for erectile dysfunction (ED) or pulmonary hypertension (e.g., sildenafil, tadalafil), it may cause low blood pressure, resulting in dizziness or fainting. Your doctor may need to adjust your medications to reduce this risk.Â
Rapaflo may lead to dizziness or fainting, especially when initiating treatment. Exercise caution while driving or engaging in activities that demand alertness. Â
To avoid dizziness while taking this medication, refrain from prolonged standing or becoming overheated during exercise and hot weather. Moreover, be cautious when rising quickly from a sitting or lying position.Â
Rapaflo is intended for use in men only. Women, particularly those who are pregnant, may become pregnant, or are breastfeeding, should refrain from taking this medication. If a pregnant woman unintentionally takes Rapaflo, promptly inform her doctor.Â
