Drug Description

Indications

Polysporin Antibiotic Cream is a topical medication used to help prevent infection and speed up the healing of minor cuts, scrapes, and burns. By preventing the growth and spread of bacteria, Polysporin Antibiotic Cream helps to reduce the risk of infection and promotes faster healing of the affected area.

The Cream contains two active ingredients: Bacitracin Zinc and polymyxin B sulfate. Bacitracin works by interfering with bacterial cell wall synthesis, thereby preventing the bacteria from growing and multiplying. Polymyxin B sulfate works by disrupting the bacterial cell membrane, causing it to leak and leading to the death of the bacteria. Together, these two antibiotics work to kill a wide range of bacteria that can cause infections in minor cuts, scrapes, and burns.

Use and Dosage

To use Polysporin Antibiotic Cream, follow the instructions provided on the medication label or as directed by your healthcare provider.

Polysporin Antibiotic Cream is for topical use only and should be applied in a thin layer on the affected area of the skin, usually 1 to 3 times daily. Before applying the cream, clean and dry the affected area of the skin. Gently rub the cream into the skin, covering the affected area. If necessary, cover the treated area with a sterile bandage or dressing. Do not use the medication for longer than one week without consulting your healthcare provider. If you experience any adverse effects while using the medication, stop using it and seek medical attention if necessary.

Apply the cream exactly as prescribed by your doctor. If you miss a dose, take it as soon as possible and continue with your regular schedule. If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and continue with your regular dosing schedule. Do not take a double dose to make up for a missed one.
