As an osmotic laxative, Peg 3350 facilitates water retention within the stool, increasing bowel movement frequency and improving stool consistency for easier passage. 

Uses and Dosage

Peg 3350 comes in a powder form to be mixed with water and administered orally. Typically, it is taken once a day as prescribed by the doctor. 

To properly take this medication, follow these steps: 

1. Utilize the bottle cap’s measuring line to gauge a single dose (approximately one heaping tablespoon) of Peg 3350. 
2. Pour the powder into a cup with 8 ounces (240 milliliters) of liquid such as water, juice, soda, coffee, or tea. 
3. Stir the mixture until the powder dissolves completely. 
4. Consume the solution immediately after preparation. 

Take this medication exactly as directed. Refrain from exceeding the recommended dosage and frequency of intake without consulting your doctor. 

Unless specifically instructed by your doctor, avoid using Peg 3350 for over a week. If your condition persists or worsens, inform your doctor.  

Prolonged or excessive use of this medication may lead to reliance on laxatives and the development of chronic constipation. Overuse can also lead to symptoms such as diarrhea, dehydration, and imbalances in minerals, including low sodium levels. 

Side Effects 

Listed below are the potential adverse effects of Peg 3350. If any of them last or worsen, notify your doctor promptly. 

Common Side Effects 

• Bloating 
• Gas 
• Upset stomach 
• Dizziness 
• Increased sweating 

Serious Side Effects 

• Severe or bloody diarrhea 
• Rectal bleeding 
• Presence of blood in stools 
• Severe and worsening stomach pain 

Stop taking Peg 3350 and call your doctor at once if you experience any of the severe side effects above. 

Allergic Reactions 

Although rare, a severe allergic reaction to Peg 3350 may occur. If any of the following symptoms listed below are observed, prompt medical assistance should be sought: 

• Rash 
• Itching or swelling of the face, tongue, or throat  
• Dizziness 
• Trouble breathing

Cautions 

Before starting treatment with Peg 3350, inform your doctor of any known allergies, particularly to polyethylene glycol, other medications, or any of the inactive ingredients of this medication. 

To ensure Peg 3350 is safe for you, disclose to your physician your medical background, especially if you have a history of: 

• Persistent nausea, vomiting, or abdominal pain 
• Stomach or intestinal issues (e.g., bowel obstruction, irritable bowel syndrome) 
• Kidney disease 

Inform all your healthcare providers about any current or newly initiated or discontinued medications, including prescription and non-prescription drugs, vitamins, and herbal supplements, as they may interact with Peg 3350. 

The use of Peg 3350 may impair the effectiveness of starch-based liquid thickeners, potentially raising the risk of choking. Consult your doctor or pharmacist for an alternative liquid thickener that does not interact with this medication. 

The potential effects of Peg 3350 on a fetus are unknown. Inform your doctor if you are pregnant or intend to conceive while taking this medication. 

The potential transfer of polyethylene glycol 3350 into breast milk and its impact on a nursing infant is uncertain. Inform your healthcare provider if you are currently breastfeeding.
