Description
Indications
Ketoconazole is a medication that is utilized to manage dandruff. It has been found to be effective in alleviating symptoms such as flaking, scaling, and itching that are commonly associated with this condition. Ketoconazole functions as an azole antifungal agent that inhibits the growth of fungus.
Furthermore, Ketoconazole 2% shampoo can be used to treat a dermatological condition referred to as pityriasis or tinea versicolor. This type of fungal infection causes a discoloration of the skin in areas such as the neck, chest, arms, or legs, and ketoconazole has been shown to be a beneficial treatment option for this condition.
Uses and Dosage
To properly use this medication, first wet your hair and scalp with water. Then, apply an ample amount of shampoo to create enough lather to effectively cleanse your hair and scalp. Gently massage the product onto your entire scalp before thoroughly rinsing your hair with warm water. Repeat this process only if directed to do so by your physician. After the final rinse, ensure that your hair is dried thoroughly.
When treating skin areas other than the scalp, wet the affected area and apply the shampoo. Lather the product and leave it in place for 5 minutes before rinsing it off with water.
Dosage, frequency of application, and duration of treatment will depend on the concentration of the shampoo (1% or 2%) as well as the condition being treated. Adhere to your physician’s instructions or the package directions.
Avoid getting the shampoo in your eyes, and if this occurs, rinse your eyes thoroughly with water. Do not start using the shampoo if your scalp or skin is swollen or broken. If your condition persists or worsens after 2-4 weeks of treatment, be sure to inform your doctor.
