Description

Indications

Klor-Con M10 is a mineral supplement prescribed for patients with hypokalemia (low blood potassium levels), irrespective of high blood pH or potassium deficiencies caused by digitalis toxicity or hypokalemic familial periodic paralysis. When hypokalemia is caused by diuretic therapy, a lower dose of diuretic should be considered to prevent further potassium deficiency.

Klor-Con M10 is also used to prevent low potassium levels in patients at a high risk of developing hypokalemia, such as those on digitalis medication or with significant heart rhythm problems.

As a potassium supplement, Klor-Con M10 replenishes potassium losses and prevents potassium deficiency, thereby promoting optimal functioning of cells, kidneys, heart, muscles, and nerves.

Uses and Dosage

Before taking Klor-Con M10 and with each prescription refill, thoroughly review its medication guide and patient information leaflet. Ask your physician or pharmacist if you have any questions or concerns.

The dosage of Klor-Con M10 is individualized and adjusted according to each patient’s specific requirements and response to treatment.

  • For the prevention of hypokalemia, the typical daily dose ranges from 20 mEq.
  • Treatment of potassium depletion may require higher doses, typically ranging from 40 to 100 mEq or more per day. If the daily dose exceeds 20 mEq, it should be divided into multiple doses, ensuring that no more than 20 mEq is administered at once.

Take Klor-Con M10 with a meal and a full glass of water to avoid stomach upset unless directed otherwise by your doctor. Wait at least 10 minutes before lying down after taking the medication.

Swallow Klor-Con M10 tablets whole. Avoid crushing, chewing, or sucking them, as this can lead to the rapid release of the entire medication, increasing the potential for adverse effects.

For patients who have difficulty swallowing whole tablets, the following alternative methods of administration may be considered:

  • Divide the tablet in half and take each half separately with a glass of water.
  • Prepare an aqueous (water) suspension using the following steps:
    1. Place the whole tablet(s) in ½ a glass (4 fluid ounces) of water.
    2. Allow the tablet(s) to disintegrate for about 2 minutes.
    3. Stir the mixture for approximately 30 seconds after disintegration.
    4. Gently swirl the suspension and promptly consume the entire contents of the glass either by drinking or using a straw.
    5. Add an additional 1 fluid ounce of water, swirl, and consume immediately.
    6. Finally, add another 1 fluid ounce of water, swirl, and consume immediately.

Klor-Con M10 suspension should be discarded if not used immediately. Using other liquids for suspension is not advised.

For optimal results, take this supplement at consistent times daily as directed by your doctor. Do not exceed the recommended dosage or frequency of intake.

Inform your doctor of any lack of improvement in your condition or indications of low potassium levels in the blood, such as muscle weakness, cramps, or an irregular heartbeat.
