Indications 

Ilevro Ophthalmic Suspension is primarily prescribed to reduce pain and inflammation resulting from cataract surgery. It can be used to reduce pain and inflammation resulting from cataract surgery. The medication is available as a prescription ophthalmic suspension in a strength of 0.3%. 

The active ingredient in Ilevro Ophthalmic Suspension is nepafenac, which belongs to a group of medicines called non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs). Ilevro works by inhibiting the production of certain substances in the body that cause inflammation and pain. 

Use and Dosage 

Ilevro is used as prescribed by a healthcare professional and it is usually applied as one drop in the affected eye(s) once daily. 

Before using Ilevro Ophthalmic Suspension, make sure your hands are clean and dry. Tilt your head back slightly and gently pull down your lower eyelid to create a small pocket. Hold the bottle upside down and squeeze it to release a single drop into the pocket formed by your lower eyelid. Avoid touching the dropper tip to any surface, including your eye, to prevent contamination. After instilling the drop, close your eye gently for a brief moment to allow the medication to spread evenly. 

If you are using other eye medications, wait at least 5 minutes before applying them after using Ilevro Ophthalmic Suspension. If you wear contact lenses, remove them before applying the eye drops and wait at least 10 minutes before reinserting them. 

If you forget to use a dose, apply it as soon as you remember. However, if it is almost time for your next scheduled dose, skip the missed dose and continue with your regular dosing schedule. Do not use extra medication to make up for a missed dose.

• A sticky sensation in the eye  
• Crusting of the eyelids  
• Dry eye  
• Eye discomfort or pain  
• Eye or eyelid swelling  
• Increased intraocular pressure  
• Itchy eyes  
• Sensitivity to light  
• Tearing 
• The sensation that a foreign body is in the eye 

Serious Side Effects 

• Serious eye symptoms such as sudden vision loss, blurred vision, tunnel vision, eye pain or swelling, or seeing halos around lights 
• Serious heart symptoms such as fast, irregular, or pounding heartbeats; fluttering in your chest; shortness of breath; and sudden dizziness, lightheartedness, or passing out
• Severe headache, confusion, slurred speech, arm or leg weakness, trouble walking, loss of coordination, feeling unsteady, very stiff muscles, high fever, profuse sweating, or tremors

Cautions 

• Allergic reactions: Some individuals may be allergic to nepafenac or other ingredients in Ilevro Ophthalmic Suspension. Discontinue use and seek medical attention if you experience signs of an allergic reaction, such as rash, itching, swelling, dizziness, or difficulty breathing. 
• Eye irritation: Ilevro Ophthalmic Suspension is applied directly to the eye and may cause temporary eye irritation, including stinging, burning, or redness. If these symptoms persist or worsen, consult a healthcare professional. 
• Contact lens use: Contact lenses should not be worn while using Ilevro Ophthalmic Suspension. If you wear contact lenses, remove them before applying the medication and wait at least 15 minutes before reinserting them. 
• Bleeding tendencies: Nepafenac should be used with caution in patients with known bleeding tendencies or who are receiving other medications that may increase the risk of bleeding. 
• Drug interactions: Discuss with your healthcare provider any other medications, including prescription, over-the-counter, or herbal products that you are currently taking. Some medications may interact with Ilevro Ophthalmic Suspension, potentially affecting its effectiveness or increasing the risk of side effects. 
• Use after eye surgery: Ilevro Ophthalmic Suspension is typically used for up to 14 days after eye surgery, as directed by a doctor. Follow the prescribed duration and not start using the medication early, use it more frequently, or continue using it for longer than directed. 
• Blurred vision: After applying nepafenac, temporary blurred or unstable vision may occur. Avoid activities such as driving, operating machinery, or engaging in tasks that require clear vision until your vision stabilizes 
• Eye redness and headache: Some individuals may experience eye redness and headaches after using nepafenac. If these effects persist or worsen, notify your doctor or pharmacist promptly. 
• Interactions with other eye medications: If you are using other eye medications, such as eye drops or ointments, wait at least 5 minutes before applying Ilevro Ophthalmic Suspension. Applying eye drops before eye ointments allows the eye drops to enter the eye effectively. 
• Long-term use: Prolonged use of nepafenac eye drops, beyond the prescribed duration (more than 2 weeks), may increase the risk of serious side effects. Follow the recommended treatment duration and consult your doctor if your condition persists or worsens.
