Dermotic Oil Ear Drops are indicated for the management of chronic itchy ear, also known as outer ear eczema. 

Dermotic Oil Ear Drops are a corticosteroid of low to moderate potency. Its precise anti-inflammatory mechanism remains unclear but is thought to alleviate symptoms associated with ear eczema, including itchiness, redness, flaking, and oozing. 

Uses and Dosage 

Before using Dermotic Oil Ear Drops and with each prescription refill, thoroughly review the product packaging and accompanying patient information leaflet. Consult your doctor or pharmacist if you have any inquiries or need additional information. 

Dermotic Oil Ear Drops are intended solely for ear application and should not be used in the eye or ingested. 

Typically, five drops of Dermotic Oil are administered twice daily to the affected ears as prescribed by the doctor. Use the provided ear dropper to ensure precise dosing. 

To properly apply this ear drop: 

1. Begin by washing your hands thoroughly. 
   • Avoid contact between the dropper tip and your ear or any other surface to prevent contamination. 
2. Tilt your head to the side, positioning the ear upward. 
3. Gently pull the earlobe backward and upward to create a clear pathway and instill the prescribed number of drops into the ear. 
4. Maintain the head tilt for approximately one minute to facilitate the deeper penetration of the oil into the ear canal. 
5. With a clean cotton ball, gently pat away any excess oil that may drip out of the ear. 
6. If directed, repeat steps 2-5 for the other ear. 
7. After use, there is no need to rinse the dropper; replace the cap securely. 

Do not insert cotton into the treated ear, as it may elevate the potential for undesired side effects. 

To achieve optimal outcomes, adhere precisely to the prescribed usage instructions for Dermotic Oil Ear Drops, administering it at around the same times daily. Use this medication exclusively for the specified condition and refrain from exceeding the prescribed duration. 

Side Effects 

The potential side effects of Dermotic Oil Ear Drops are listed below. If any of these symptoms last or deteriorate, promptly notify your doctor. 

Common Side Effects 

• Burning, itching, irritation, or dryness 
• Rash in the area where the oil was applied 
• Rash or irritation around the mouth 
• Acne, pimples, or stretch marks 
• Lightened skin color 
• Redness or crusting around hair follicles 

Serious Side Effects 

• Intense irritation within or around the ear 
• Indications of a skin infection, such as warmth, redness, swelling, sores, or oozing 

Stop using Dermotic Oil Ear Drops and contact your doctor immediately if you experience any of the serious side effects listed above. 

Topical steroids like this ear drop can be absorbed by the skin, potentially leading to systemic steroid side effects. Children in particular can absorb larger quantities through their skin, increasing the risk of side effects. Inform your doctor if you or your children experience: 

• Swelling and weight gain, particularly in the face, upper back, or torso 
• Thinning of the skin, stretch marks, acne, or increased facial hair 
• Memory issues or irritability 
• Irregular menstrual periods or alterations in sexual function 
• Growth delays in a child 

Allergic Reactions 

In rare cases, Dermotic Oil Ear Drops may trigger a severe allergic reaction. Promptly seek medical assistance upon observing any indications of a severe allergic response, including: 

• Hives 
• Trouble breathing 
• Face, lips, tongue, or throat swelling

Cautions

Do not apply Dermotic Oil Ear Drops if the area to be treated has an infection or a sore, as this medication may exacerbate skin infections. If redness, swelling, or irritation persists, promptly inform your doctor.
