Indications
Cromolyn Sodium Inhalation Solution is indicated for the prevention of bronchial asthma attacks in individuals aged 2 and above.
Moreover, Cromolyn Sodium Inhalation Solution is used to prevent bronchospasm triggered by exercise, exposure to cold, dry air, chemicals, environmental pollutants, or allergens (e.g., animal dander or industrial chemicals).
Belonging to the class of medications called mast cell stabilizers, Cromolyn Sodium Inhalation Solution works by preventing the release of certain natural chemicals, including histamines, which can trigger airway inflammation and respiratory difficulties.
Uses and Dosage
Prior to initiating treatment with Cromolyn Sodium Inhalation Solution and with each prescription refill, carefully read the accompanying medication guide and patient information leaflet. Seek guidance from your doctor or pharmacist if you have any concerns or need more information.
Cromolyn Sodium Inhalation Solution is administered via a power nebulizer equipped with either a face mask or mouthpiece. Familiarize yourself with the operation and maintenance of the device.
The dosage of this medication is determined by your medical condition, age, treatment response, and other asthma medications.
Typically, this medication is inhaled 4 times daily as prescribed by the doctor.
For prevention of breathing problems caused by exercise, cold, dry air, or allergens, this medication must be inhaled within 10 to 15 minutes prior to exposure (but no later than 60 minutes).
Prior to use, visually inspect the solution for particles or discoloration. If either is detected, refrain from using the solution.
To properly take this medication:
- Open the nebule and pour the solution into the nebulizer chamber.
- Attach the mouthpiece or face mask, then connect the chamber to the compressor.
- Sit in an upright, comfortable position.
- Insert the mouthpiece into your mouth or wear the face mask, covering both your nose and mouth.
- Switch on the compressor and inhale slowly and steadily until the nebulizer no longer produces mist and the chamber is empty.
- After each use, clean the nebulizer following the provided cleaning instructions.
For optimal results, use Cromolyn Sodium Inhalation Solution regularly, maintaining consistent intervals between doses. Establish a routine by taking it at the same times daily.
Consult your doctor before making any changes to your medication dosage, frequency of use, or discontinuation. Your doctor may adjust your dosage as the treatment progresses; adhere closely to your doctor’s guidance.
