Uses and Dosage

This ointment is indicated for topical application on the skin; however, refrain from applying it to the face, groin, or underarms unless directed by your doctor. 

Aristocort R Ointment is typically administered to the affected skin area two to four times per day as prescribed by the doctor. 

To properly apply this ointment, follow these steps: 

1. Start by washing and thoroughly drying your hands. 
2. Clean and dry the affected area before the application of the ointment. 
3. Apply a thin layer of the ointment onto the affected area and gently massage it in. 
4. Following application, wash your hands unless the ointment is used for hand treatment. 

Refrain from using any coverings, bandages, or wraps on the treated area unless directed by your doctor. 

Avoid wearing plastic pants or snug-fitting diapers while treating the diaper area with this ointment. 

Refrain from applying this ointment on areas that have infections or open sores. 

Exercise caution when applying this ointment near the eyes to prevent accidental contact that may exacerbate or lead to glaucoma. 

Similarly, prevent contact with the nose or mouth. In case of accidental contact with the eyes, nose, or mouth, ensure thorough rinsing with a lot of water. 

For optimal effectiveness, adhere closely to the prescribed instructions for using Aristocort R Ointment. Refrain from exceeding the recommended dosage or extending its application beyond the specified duration. 

Side Effects

Common Side Effects 

• Burning, itching, dryness, or irritation on the treated skin 
• Redness or crusting near hair follicles 
• Itching or redness surrounding the mouth area

• Potential indications of Aristocort R Ointment absorption through the skin including: 
  • Weight gain, particularly in the facial, upper back, and torso areas 
  • Delayed wound healing 
  • Changes in skin thickness or color 
  • Increased body hair growth 
  • Muscle weakness 
  • Nausea 
  • Diarrhea 
  • Fatigue 
  • Mood swings 
  • Altered menstrual patterns 
  • Changes in sexual function

Children are more prone to increased absorption of Aristocort R Ointment through their skin, potentially leading to side effects such as: 

• Growth retardation 
• Headaches 
• Pain behind the eyes 

In infants, this may manifest as a noticeable swelling in the soft spot on the top of their head where the skull has not yet fully closed. 

Allergic Reactions
