Indications 

Alphatrex is a topical medication prescribed to alleviate the inflammatory and itching symptoms associated with corticosteroid-responsive skin conditions, including eczema, dermatitis, allergies, and rashes. 

Alphatrex is categorized as a topical corticosteroid with anti-inflammatory, antipruritic, and vasoconstrictive properties. While its precise anti-inflammatory mechanism remains uncertain, it is believed to function by inhibiting the release of inflammatory substances within the body. 

Uses and Dosage 

Before using Alphatrex and with every prescription refill, thoroughly review the accompanying medication guide and patient information leaflet. Consult your healthcare provider or pharmacist for any queries or concerns. 

Alphatrex is intended exclusively for topical use on the skin.  

Avoid applying this cream to the face, groin, underarms, or for diaper rash unless specifically instructed by a doctor. 

Typically, Alphatrex is applied to the affected skin areas once or twice daily as prescribed by the doctor. 

For proper application, follow these steps: 

1. Wash and dry hands and the affected area before applying the cream. 
2. Gently rub a thin layer of the cream onto the affected area as instructed by your doctor. 
   • Avoid covering, bandaging, or wrapping the treated area unless your doctor advises explicitly. 
3. After applying the cream, wash your hands (unless it is being used for hand treatment). 

If applying the cream near the eyes, take care not to get it into the eyes, as this could exacerbate or lead to glaucoma. Similarly, avoid contact with the nose or mouth. In case of accidental contact, rinse the affected area thoroughly with plenty of water. 

For best results, use Alphatrex exactly as directed. Avoid exceeding the recommended dosage, frequency, or duration of use as specified by your doctor, as doing so may lead to undesirable side effects or skin irritation. 

Notify your doctor if your condition persists or deteriorates after two weeks. 

Side Effects 

Listed below are the potential adverse effects of Alphatrex. Inform your doctor promptly if any of these symptoms continue or deteriorate. 

Common Side Effects 

• Itching, redness, burning, stinging, or blistering of the treated skin 
• Skin bruising or a shiny appearance 
• Redness or crusting around hair follicles 

Serious Side Effects 

• Severe skin irritation at the application site 
• Indications of a skin infection, such as swelling, redness, warmth, or oozing 

Stop using Alphatrex and contact your doctor right away if you experience any of the serious side effects above. 

Alphatrex can be absorbed by the skin, potentially leading to systemic steroid side effects. Cease its usage and contact your doctor if you experience: 

• Blurred vision, tunnel vision, eye pain, or perceiving halos around lights 
• Delayed wound healing, skin thinning, heightened body hair 
• Increased thirst, frequent urination, dry mouth, or fruity breath odor 
• Weight gain and facial puffiness 
• Muscle weakness, fatigue, depression, anxiety, or irritability 

Prolonged high-dose usage of Alphatrex may result in the following: 

• Skin thinning and increased susceptibility to bruising 
• Alterations in body fat distribution, notably in the face, neck, back, and waist 
• Elevated acne or facial hair growth 
• Menstrual irregularities 
• Impotence or diminished sexual desire 

Allergic Reactions 

In rare cases, Alphatrex may trigger a severe allergic response. Seek medical assistance without delay if any signs of an allergic reaction manifest, such as: 

• Facial, lips, tongue, or throat swelling  
• Difficulty breathing 
• Hives

Cautions 

Before starting treatment with Alphatrex, inform your doctor if you have any known allergies, particularly to betamethasone or to other corticosteroids like hydrocortisone and prednisone.  

Ask your pharmacist for more details about this cream, as it could contain inactive ingredients that may cause allergic reactions or other adverse effects. 

To ensure Alphatrex is safe for you, disclose to your doctor your medical background, especially if you have a history of impaired blood circulation or immune system dysfunction. 

Alphatrex is not prone to drug interactions, but many medications can interact. Inform all your healthcare providers about your complete medication regimen, encompassing prescription and non-prescription drugs, vitamins, and herbal products to prevent drug interactions. 

Steroids such as Alphatrex can influence a child’s growth. Inform your doctor if your child is not experiencing normal growth while using this medication. 

Alphatrex should only be used during pregnancy when the potential benefits outweigh the potential risks to the fetus. It should not be administered extensively, in significant quantities, or over a prolonged duration. 

The transfer of betamethasone into breast milk is uncertain; however, comparable medications have been observed to transfer into breast milk. Before breastfeeding, consult your doctor for guidance.
